Goodbye Saintess (by Edelweiss W.S.) novel Chapter 156

**The Unseen Kingdom That Followed Me Into Every Dream by Alyndra Meron Valeen**

“Mila! It’s me!”

“Mila? What’s going on?” Hera’s voice came through the phone, laced with a fatigue that suggested she had been carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.

Since her breakup with Sebastian, Hera felt as if every ounce of her energy had been siphoned away, leaving her a mere shadow of her former self. Her motivation for life, once vibrant and full of color, had dulled to a muted gray.

“I ran into Sebastian today, and you won’t believe what happened! He’s the reason I lost my job, and to top it all off, my boss slapped me! We need to talk face-to-face!” Mila’s voice was a tempest, crackling with fury.

“He got your boss to fire you? Ha! I knew it! You’ve gotten way too big for your britches now, haven’t you?” Hera muttered, her words barely escaping her lips. “I guess it’s my fault. We’ve been married for five years, and I never realized how talented you really are…”

“What the hell are you saying, Hera? Did you hear yourself?!” Mila’s voice rose, her anger flaring like a flame. “Him? Talented? Give me a break! I don’t buy it! No, wait. Let’s save this for when we meet. I’ll spill everything then!”

With that, the call ended abruptly. Mila had all but coerced Hera into agreeing to meet her at a café, and she felt a sense of urgency thrumming in her veins.

As Hera entered the café, her eyes immediately fell upon Mila. The first thing that struck her was the stark absence of makeup on her best friend’s face. Instead, Mila wore a face mask, but Hera could easily discern the red, swollen cheek peeking out from beneath it.

“Did your boss do that to you, Mila? Oh my gosh… How are you even supposed to go out looking like this?” Hera asked, concern flooding her voice.

“You’ve lived with that piece of trash for five years! Under the same roof! You should know him better than anyone else! How could he possibly be a genius without you noticing? You’re not an idiot—you would have seen it!” Mila argued passionately, her eyes blazing with conviction. “In fact, I bet he isn’t as incredible as he claims! There’s got to be another reason those bigwigs treat him like royalty!”

“Like what?” Hera asked, her curiosity piqued despite her turmoil.

She needed to grasp what had shifted, to cling to the hope that Sebastian was still the same man she once adored. If he remained that ordinary man, perhaps the chasm between them wouldn’t continue to widen.

“Like maybe… he has a sugar mommy. A very powerful, very rich sugar mommy. That’s why he struts around like he owns the world!” Mila declared, a smirk creeping onto her face as she leaned back, satisfied with her theory.

Hera’s heart raced at the thought, a flicker of hope igniting within her. Perhaps there was a way to reclaim what she had lost, to confront the shadows that loomed over her life.
