The Unseen Kingdom That Followed Me Into Every Dream by Alyndra Meron Valeen 39 Summary Baron was clearly frustrated and angry, as shown by the expletives he used, signaling to his friends that they should step back. When a man blocked his path, Baron responded with sarcasm and bravado, implying that if he found the person he was searching for, he wouldn’t care about anyone else and would even share his spoils. He then hurried to his car, instructing the driver to take him quickly to The Baron’s Hotel.
While in the car, Baron studied an old, faded photo of the young man he was seeking, frustrated by the difficulty of finding someone in such a large city with only a partial last name. Upon arriving at the hotel, Baron was stunned to see someone he believed to be the person in the photo. Without hesitation, he rushed out of the car, eager to make contact, while the driver made a humorous aside about Baron’s behavior. Meanwhile, at the hotel entrance, the narrator encountered the receptionist, Amy, who again blocked his way.
She told him the elevator was broken and asked him to wait in the lounge, offering afternoon tea. The narrator was suspicious but agreed, stating he could take the stairs since he needed to reach Rhea, who was suffering from heartburn. Amy then claimed there was a fire on the fifth floor and said staff were handling it, further preventing him from going to their room. The narrator, a firefighter, insisted he could help put out the fire and demanded to be let in, growing increasingly suspicious of Amy’s actions.
Amy was internally frustrated that the narrator was a firefighter, complicating her efforts to keep him out. The narrator pressed for information about Rhea, sensing something was wrong, and was determined not to waste time on what he saw as a game. The chapter ends with growing tension and urgency as the narrator confronts Amy’s strange behavior and tries to reach Rhea, setting the stage for a critical moment.
