Hope’s POV

We managed to arrive at the rink at half past nine, which was only thirty minutes later than my call time. I let out a sigh of relief and unfastened my seatbelt, preparing to bolt to the rehab room, when Levi suddenly reached over and held my

hand.

I turned to him, looking at him with curiosity.

Then, I smiled. “Thanks, Levi. I really appreciate it.”

With that, I prepared to leave again, but he still didn’t let go of my hand.

I turned back around with a slight frown,

“You forgot something,” he said.

“Huh?” I muttered, glancing down at my bag. “I have everything I need, though.”

Just then, he pulled me toward him and placed a kiss on my lips.

For a few long seconds, he stayed there, his lips warm against mine before gently nipping at my lower lip. When he finally pulled away, I didn’t miss the smug little smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

I gently pushed against his chest and shot him a playful glare.

“I’ll pick you up later,” he said with a wink, making my heart race all over again.

“You have to rest. You don’t have to do it.”

“I can only rest well when I’m with you.”

I rolled my eyes at how cheesy he sounded, but the smile threatening my lips refused to disappear. In the end, I still nodded.

“Okay. I’ll see you later.”

He hummed in satisfaction.

With that, I climbed out of the car.

Although I wasn’t exactly skipping, it felt like there was a lightness in my steps. Even after closing the door behind me, I could still feel the lingering warmth of his kiss on my lips.

I had to bite the inside of my cheek just to stop myself from smiling like an idiot.

Apparently, I wasn’t doing a very good job.

“You look happy today, Hope,” the security guard said as I scanned my ID.

I bit my lip harder to keep the grin from growing any wider.

“Well… we won yesterday.”

His eyes brightened. “Atta, girl. You must be doing some kind of wonders with Levi. He was playing like a monster yesterday -more than he already is.”

I laughed softly and shook my head.

“It’s all him.”

The guard chuckled before waving me inside.

With that, I headed toward the rehab room.

The familiar scent of antiseptic greeted me the moment I stepped inside.

I settled into my desk and organized the few things I had brought with me.

I knew the boys didn’t have an official practice the day after a game. Most of them would probably be sleeping until noon or recovering at home. Still, I wanted to come in just in case.

Just then, I heard footsteps echoing from outside the room.

A smirk found its way onto my lips. Levi said there wouldn’t be anyone here today. Looks like he was wrong. Someone definitely came in.

I straightened in my chair and put on my brightest professional smile, ready to greet whoever had decided to show up despite the team’s day off.

But that smile disappeared before I could even say hello.

The person who walked through the doorway was the last person I expected to see.

I slowly stood from my seat.

My eyes settled on the elegantly dressed woman standing by the entrance, looking out of place among the treatment beds and rehabilitation equipment.

“Margaret,” I muttered.

A small, satisfied smirk appeared on her lips.

“Good,” she said. “You’re already here.”

Her eyes swept over the room before settling back on me.

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you.”

Her office hadn’t changed since the last time I was here. It was still unusually cold and unwelcoming.

A piping hot pot of tea sat between us, steam rising from the porcelain cup in front of me. Oddly enough, even that somehow looked cold.

“Taste it,” she suddenly said.

I pursed my lips before carefully picking up the teacup. The porcelain was warm against my fingers.

I took a cautious sip. The flavor spread across my tongue, earthy and slightly floral.

“It costs a million dollars per kilogram,” she suddenly said, making me nearly spit the expensive tea. My eyes widened.

“I’m sorry… a million dollars?”

She shrugged. “Quite cheap, right? I got it from a direct supplier, so they gave me a discount.”

I stared at the tea again. I couldn’t find it within me to justify its price. I placed it down quickly, not wanting to take another sip.

“It’s Da Hong Pao,” she continued with a hint of pride. “A rare Chinese oolong tea from the Wuyi Mountains.”

She lifted her own cup and took a slow sip.

“True million-dollar Da Hong Pao can only be harvested from six specific ancient tea bushes growing along the cliffs.”

She lowered the cup.

“It’s rare.”

“And somehow, I managed to get my hands on it.”

A faint smile crossed her lips.

“I suppose the harvester trusted me enough to safeguard something so valuable.”

She paused.

“He knows I’m a very meticulous person.”

She deliberately emphasized the last sentence.

Her gaze slowly drifted away from the teacup until it met mine.

I couldn’t help swallowing. There was something unsettling about the way she looked at people. Like she was quietly dissecting every expression. It felt as though she could see straight through me.

Still, I refused to look away. I didn’t want to lose.

“Oh?”

A quiet chuckle escaped her lips.

“Well, what do we have here? You’re actually looking me in the eyes,”

I remained silent.

“Did you know,” she continued, resting her elbows on the desk before leaning slightly closer, “only two people have ever managed to look me directly in the eyes while I was speaking to them?”

“All the others eventually looked away.”

A brief silence settled between us.

“Levi,” she said, naming the first person.
