Hope’s POV

The center was busier today. I couldn’t even check my phone to see if Levi had texted or called. I barely had enough time to breathe between patients. It was only now, after hours of nonstop work, that I finally got to sit down and rest my aching feet.

I pulled out my phone to see if Levi had texted me, and sure enough, there were multiple messages waiting. There were even more from Levi, Harley, and… Lia?

I clicked on Levi’s first, but before the photo could even load, someone entered the break room, and I unconsciously placed my phone face down on the table.

I lifted my head and pursed my lips.

Gosh, it was Carmen again.

To make matters worse, she wasn’t alone. She had more familiar faces behind her, all dressed in casual clothes, appearing to be visiting the center.

Wasn’t it policy that outsiders weren’t allowed in the break room?

“Oh my,” Carmen said, covering her mouth. “You’re here. We have the same break!”

“Yeah… unfortunately,” I whispered the last word under my breath, so fortunately, she wasn’t able to hear it.

“Hope?” one of the guys asked.

I recognized him as Logan, part of their clique, and also Jerome’s teammate back then.

“It’s really you?”

“Hi, Logan,” I said out of courtesy.

“Damn, you got even prettier than before.”

He immediately earned a hard rib from the woman beside him, whom I recognized as Courtney, again part of their clique. Standing beside her was Mary, the most talkative out of all of them.

“What?” Logan muttered, rubbing his side. “I’m just telling the truth.”

Courtney cleared her throat.

“It’s nice to see you again. I thought you wouldn’t come back here because the last time I heard, you were working with the Glaciers.”

“Yeah, my contract ended,” I simply said, hoping that would stop them from speculating.

“Ahh.” Mary said knowingly. “So you weren’t fired or anything like that?”

Carmen faked a gasp.

“Mary, where are your manners?” She looked at me with an apologetic smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Sorry for my friends. They’re just excited to see you.”

They took the seats in front of me, so I really had no choice but to hide my phone inside my bag.

“How are the Glaciers?” Logan asked. “I heard your boyfriend plays there now. Is that how you got in? Maybe you can tell

them to give me a spot.”

“Yeah, Logan is really good,” Courtney chimed in. “He’s part of the local team! Pull some strings for us, Hope.

Gosh, they really hadn’t changed. Not one bit.

I let out a slow breath.

“I was hired without his help. And we had already broken up before I started working there.”

“Oh, so you’re single?” Carmen asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

I didn’t respond, but it seemed they took my silence as a yes.

“You don’t have to be ashamed,” Mary said. “Even if we’re near marrying age, it’s okay to not have someone.”

I pursed my lips.

I wasn’t ashamed at all. There was nothing to be ashamed of about being single.

Moreover, I had a very handsome and ridiculously sexy boyfriend waiting for me at home.

But that was only for me to know.

“Anyway, how’s Levi Reeve?” Courtney suddenly asked, making me straighten my spine. “Is he really not playing for the Glaciers for good? I’m sad. He’s the best eye candy on the team. But I guess Desmond and the twins aren’t too bad to look at either…”

Speaking with them felt like I was actively losing years off my lifespan.

“Why ask her that?” Carmen chuckled. “It’s not like she’s close with Levi Reeve. She’s just the Physical Therapist.”

“Right,” Mary added. “From what I heard, Levi Reeve is a germaphobe, and he only lets their previous PT treat him. I bet Hope hasn’t even touched him.”

“Yeah,” I simply answered, because again, that was the answer they wanted to hear.

They didn’t have to know that I had done far more than touch him.

I had sucked his dick off.

Heat instantly rushed to my cheeks.

I quickly shook my head, trying to rid my mind of such immature and inappropriate thoughts.

“Carmen, have you already invited her to the reunion?” Logan suddenly asked.

“Yeah,” Carmen answered. “But it seems like she doesn’t want to go. Bummer, right?”

“Why not?” Mary asked. “Are you shy because you don’t have a boyfriend or a job?”

They were really getting on my nerves, these four.

I slowly inhaled before letting out a deep breath.

“It’s not that. It’s just been a while since I’ve seen everyone. It would be awkward if I was there.”

Besides, I was pretty sure that most of the people going would either be their friends or the same people who used to kiss up to them.

“Oh, are you saying that it’s awkward with us?” Courtney asked, placing a hand over her chest. “I’m hurt, Hope. I thought we were friends.”

They weren’t going to drop this, were they?
