Hope’s POV

“Just drop us off at the house. Your dad’s probably sleepy. I haven’t seen him that energetic since the nineties,” my mom said.

My dad interjected right away. “I still have lots of energy!”

Even then, I could hear the weariness in his voice. I covered my mouth to suppress a giggle. My dad didn’t like being underestimated at all.

“Take Levi to Dorado,” my mom added before turning to Levi. “It’s the most famous local diner here. Their food’s really cheap, but good.”

“Mom,” I muttered, but she merely smiled.

“Just make him wear a hat. He’s wearing Harley’s shabby clothes anyway, so no one would be able to recognize him.”

I looked at Levi and couldn’t help but smile. It was true. After playing, they had changed out of their clothes because they were covered in sweat, and Levi was left wearing Harley’s shabbiest outfit-a very worn-out shirt and a pair of linen shorts with holes around the waistband.

“What?” Harley asked. “Most of my good clothes are back in Manhattan. He should be grateful I’m letting him borrow my clothes.”

“I want to go.” Levi said, and seeing the shine in his eyes, I agreed in the end. It was the weekend, so Dorado would surely be busy, but that would also work in our favor because people would be less likely to notice him in a large crowd.

With that, Harley drove us back to the house so we could drop off my parents.

Before leaving, my dad handed us a few bills.

“Sir, I can pay for it,” Levi said, but my dad glared at him.

“Take the money.”

Levi quickly caved. “Thank you, sir. We’ll use it well.”

I smiled at their interaction. After that, Levi helped my dad out of the car and back into the house before heading inside the car again.

This time, he didn’t take the front seat. Instead, he sat beside me.

“Wow. You just made me your driver, didn’t you? Might as well be your chaperone on a date at this point.”

“Then, should you leave?” I teased.

“No way!” Harley exclaimed. “I’m not leaving even if you pay me. I need to talk to Levi about why the heck he’s so good at playing hockey.”

Levi chuckled, placing a hand on my thigh and gently caressing it while he spoke with Harley.

“You just need more experience. You’re pretty good.”

Harley chuckled. “That means I was as good as you when you were my age?”

Levi paused for a moment.

Chapter 135

“Nope. I was better than you.”

Harley groaned. “Just you wait. I’ll be better than you soon.”

“Well, you can only try.” Levi retorted with a grin. “I must say, though… you’re better than Connor.”

Harley nearly jumped in his seat.

“Right? I always thought so, too. When we played back then, he’d get angry whenever he couldn’t score and would completely lose it. I still can’t believe he got into the Glaciers.”

“Must be because he was fucking Delaney behind my sister’s back.”

Levi turned to me then.

“Don’t worry.” I told him. “I don’t even care right now.”

“Good,” he said, pinching my nose. “Don’t think about him ever again.”

Dorado was bustling as usual, even busier than I had expected. The outdoor seats were completely filled, and families, friends, and couples ate with gusto while the air buzzed with conversations, laughter, and the irresistible smell of grilled food.

I turned to Levi, who had already pulled on his cap, and tilted my head to the side.

“I don’t think this will work.”

“Oh, come on,” Harley said. “Don’t be so uptight. I’m hungry, and I miss the food here. Even the grease tastes good at this place.”

“That’s because they reuse it,” I said.

“Exactly,” he replied with a smile.

Yeah, we grew up eating here, and it always brought back good memories.

There was just one problem.

I cupped Levi’s face and observed him properly.

“Levi’s just too handsome. Even the cap can’t hide it. He still looks exactly like Levi Reeve,” I muttered.

I felt his cheeks warm beneath my palms. He quickly looked away.

“Hope,” he muttered, almost shyly.

“Can you stop flirting when I’m here?”

“I’m just telling the truth!” I exclaimed. “Take a good look at my boyfriend and tell me he doesn’t scream attention.”

Harley clicked his tongue.

I have a hoodie behind the seat. It has a large hood.”

I reached behind the seat, fetched it, and looked at the black hoodie.

“It has bleach stains on it,” I told Harley. “And it has visible holes!”

“So?” Harley exclaimed. “Since your boyfriend is so handsome, like you said, he needs to be nerfed a little bit, don’t you think?”

“I’ll wear it,” Levi said.

He took it from me and slipped it on without hesitation. Then he pulled up the hood, and Harley was right. It was so oversized that it covered nearly half of Levi’s face, casting a shadow over his features.

“See?” Harley said proudly. “It’s better. He actually looks like a broke college kid like me.”

I shook my head and turned to Levi.”

“Is it really okay?”

“Yeah.” he said. “Let’s go. I’m hungry, too.”

I sighed and nodded.

Well, at least the hoodie really did a good job of making him look like an ordinary college kid.

With that, we climbed out of the car. I was still a little apprehensive, but the farther we walked without anyone recognizing him, the more I began to relax.

“There,” Harley said, pointing to a booth that could fit around eight people. It was the only space left, so we quickly headed toward it before anyone else could.

We took our seats and began ordering. I told Levi all of my favorites, and he insisted on ordering every single one of them.

“Are you sure? Can you finish all of that?” I asked.

“Yes,” he said seriously. “I want to taste all of your favorites.”
