I honestly think this has been the most peaceful I’ve ever been since the day I was born. Being with Hope’s family made me realize that this was what a family was supposed to be.
Hannah and Jerry treated me as their own even though they’d known me for less than a month. Harley treated me like an older brother too, constantly asking me for hockey advice or dragging me into whatever random thing he wanted to try.
He was a menace at times, too. Somehow, I felt like the world would crumble if he and Zayla ever interacted. The two of them together would be absolute chaos. It would be best to stop that from ever happening.
I’d learned how to bake and knit too, and those were things I never thought I’d do in my lifetime. They were actually pretty fun. Hope would come home after work, and seeing the smile on her face as she ate the sweets I made made me want to do it over and over again. Somehow, that simple look of happiness on her face was enough to make all the effort worth it.
Now, I had just finished gardening with Jerry. Meanwhile, Harley was out playing hockey with his friends.
I was simply waiting for the time to fetch Hope.
The reunion was in three days, and although I wasn’t exactly fond of interacting with such shallow people, I would gladly do it for Hope. If it meant standing by her side, then spending a few hours around people I couldn’t stand was a small price to pay.
Just then, my phone rang, and I sat up on the bed. I frowned.
It was Forest.
Wasn’t this the first time he’d called me ever since I left?
I quickly answered the call. It showed the video call option, so I tapped on it.
My frown deepened when I saw that Desmond and the twins were with him.
“What?” I asked, grabbing the plate of freshly baked cookies from the bedside table and munching on one.
“Well, you look like you’re enjoying yourself,” Desmond said, sounding exhausted.
“Yeah, it looks like he’s having a jolly good time,” Spencer chimed in sarcastically.
“Yeah, it’s good,” I said, my mouth full of cookie. “I baked these myself. I just got back from gardening too, and now I’m lying in bed.”
They were silent for a while, and they all appeared to be glaring at me through the screen.
I didn’t even do anything wrong.

Chapter 138
“I can’t believe this,” Scott muttered. “Didn’t you say you hated sweet things?”
I shrugged before taking another bite.
“Well, I’ve already tasted the sweetest thing in the world, so this is nothing.”
I smirked while the rest of them groaned in disappointment.

“Oh, come on,” Desmond said. “We didn’t call you so you could rub your good life in our faces. We’re having a very hard time over here.”
I frowned.
“Didn’t you qualify for the semis already? Two more games, right?”
“Yes,” Forest said. “But do you know that we lost the last three games in the qualifiers?”
My brows rose.
“Oh, really?”
“He didn’t even monitor our games!” Spencer exclaimed. “Everyone here is losing their minds, their balls, and probably their hair, but he’s just relaxing.”
“I was busy,” I told them. “At least you got into the semis. That’s what’s important.”
Forest sighed.
“We were only able to reach the quarterfinals because of our standing, which we earned after beating the Pucks and the Thunders.”
“Our opponent in the quarterfinals wasn’t in good condition, and honestly, I think that’s the only reason we
won.”
“We lost the games that were supposed to be easy for us, and with us playing against the Dreams in the semifinals, I think we’ll have to kiss our championship goodbye.”
I studied their faces and finally understood the gravity of the situation.
I knew they wouldn’t call me if they weren’t desperate.
I could already guess what they were going to ask me next.
“Can’t you come back and play until the finals?” Desmond asked with a serious expression.
I stayed silent for a moment as I thought about it.
Honestly, being here had made me forget about professional hockey.
For the first time in years, I didn’t think of myself as Levi Reeve, the professional hockey player. I was just… Levi. A normal man with a loving family around him and a very pretty, kind, and irresistible girlfriend.

It was peaceful. The kind of life I never realized I’d always wanted.
However, I also knew that I hadn’t given up on hockey.
There was no other profession in the world that I could ever imagine myself doing.
I just didn’t think I would have to make this decision so suddenly.
Forest sighed, pulling me out of my thoughts.
