“Should I just send him a direct message?” Carmen giddily asked while Courtney and Mary egged her on.

Gosh, why did we have to go on a break at the same time again? And why were her friends here? Don’t they have other important things to do? Or was making other people’s business their full-time hobby?

“Right?” Carmen asked, giggling to herself. “A lot of the attendees messaged me to ask if we have a special guest. Since a lot of our batchmates are hockey players or are interested in hockey, I think he’ll be the perfect guest.”

I couldn’t help but feel curious about who they were talking about.

“It’s perfect!” Courtney exclaimed. “I’ve always wanted to meet him in person.”

“Yeah,” Mary chimed in. “And since he’s not playing right now, I think he’d respond. You have a lot of followers, don’t you?”

Carmen tucked her hair behind her ear, looking almost smug. “Yeah, I just reached a hundred thousand.”

The two of them immediately began gushing over her.

“Then he’ll definitely notice you.”

“Oh my gosh, with that many followers, he has to!”

I pieced the clues together.

“Are you talking about Levi?” I asked with a small frown.

Their gushing stopped as they all turned to me.

“Yeah,” Carmen said, slightly tilting her head to the side. “Since he’s not active with the Glaciers, there’s a big chance he’s going to respond to my invitation.”

I pursed my lips.

This was becoming crazier by the second.

They still didn’t know that Levi would be going to the reunion… but as my boyfriend.

I simply took a sip of water to hide the smile threatening to spread across my face.

“Now that I think about it, there was a rumor circulating around that Levi’s dating you, right?” Carmen suddenly asked.

I froze as I turned to the three of them.

They all stared at me with inquisitive gazes, making me gulp.

Before I could even answer, they burst into laughter.

“Of course it’s false!” Carmen exclaimed between giggles. “You have Lee, right? So there’s nothing going on with you and Levi.”

The three of them laughed as though the idea itself was ridiculous.

I merely pursed my lips, not confirming or denying anything.

“Anyway, Lee’s coming, right?”

“Yeah.” I answered. “He said he would come.”

“That’s good,” Mary said. “You guys will be able to taste expensive food.”

I let out a deep sigh.

They were just so lovely, weren’t they?

Note the sarcasm.

“I’m excited to meet Levi,” Courtney continued dreamily. “Even with all the articles going around-who cares? He’s a good player, and he’s hot.”

“Right,” Mary giggled. “Honestly, I think he really suits you, Carmen.”

I watched as Carmen’s face reddened.

She tried to deny it, waving her hands, but the smile she kept trying to suppress betrayed her. She looked far too pleased with the thought.

I let out another soft sigh.

This was one of the reasons why I didn’t want Levi to come.

Carmen was already imagining herself with him, and she hadn’t even seen him in real life. She had already built an entire fantasy around a man she only knew through articles and social media.

“Oh my gosh!” Carmen suddenly shrieked, springing from her seat so quickly that it nearly scraped across the floor. “Levi just read my direct message!”

The three of them squealed together.

Today was another tiring yet fulfilling day.

The patients were really nice, especially this old lady who insisted on giving me some tangerines before she left. She even slipped them into my hands despite me politely refusing several times.

Now I was on my way home when Jerome suddenly stopped me.

I turned to look at him.

“It’s been a while since we’ve talked. Hope.”

“Yeah. We’re on separate shifts.”

He cleared his throat.

“I’ve just been meaning to ask… Is Lee really your boyfriend?”

I studied his face, unable to understand why he was asking me that.

“Yes.” I answered truthfully. “Lee and I are dating.”

His shoulders immediately sagged. The change was subtle, but impossible to miss.

Just as he was about to say something else, a loud honk interrupted our conversation.

I turned toward the source of the noise and found my dad’s old car parked nearby, with Levi sitting in the driver’s seat wearing a mask.

I couldn’t help but smile.

I turned back to Jerome and bowed slightly.

“My ride’s here.”

“Right,” he muttered quietly. “You have your day off for the next three days, right?”

I nodded

“See you at the reunion then.”

“Hmm, see you”

With that, I walked toward the car and got into the front passenger seat

“Harley’s out with his friends again?” I asked as I fastened my seatbelt

Levi didn’t respond.

I turned to him and found a small pout resting on his lips.

My brows rose.

I turned back toward the window and saw Jerome glancing at us from time to time before finally walking

away.

“Who? Jerome? We’re colleagues.”

“He definitely does not see you as a colleague.” His voice was flat. “Harley was right when he said he liked you.”

I shook my head.

“You’re both delusional. Jerome doesn’t like me. He has this on-and-off thing with Carmen.”

“You don’t know how likable you are, Hope,” he muttered.

I looked at him seriously before narrowing my eyes.

“I should be the one sulking right now, Levi,” I told him.

He immediately turned to me with a surprised look.

“What did I do?”

“Do you go around checking the DMs of random girls?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

“D… Ms?” he repeated slowly, looking genuinely confused. “What are DMs?”

“Direct messages. Like on the ‘gram.”

“What gram?” he asked again.

As I looked at his face, I realized he truly had no idea what I was talking about.
