Chapter 145
Chapter 145
Levi’s POV
:
I gazed at the clock, a minute left before the second half began. Right beside it was the score.
6-1.

We were five down, which meant that I needed the team to score at least five goals while preventing the other team from scoring any more points. Glancing at my teammates, I found that most of them looked frustrated and fatigued. They also weren’t playing to the best of their abilities, the first half throwing them off.
Just then, I felt Connor stand beside me.
“I’ll leave Hope all alone,” he suddenly said.
I turned to him, internalizing what he had just said.
He finally looked me in the eyes, a smirk forming on his lips. “If you manage to win this game, I’ll leave Hope all alone, too.”
“Honestly, I’ve been thinking about it, and Hope is really the best woman out there. She did everything for me even when I told her not to.”
I clenched my fists, holding back my temper.
“To be frank, I miss her a lot, and I regret ever breaking up with her.”
“Now that she’s with you, I just can’t accept it cleanly. Let’s add another layer to the bet. If you win, I’ll leave her alone.”
“But if the team loses,” his smirk widened. “You need to leave her alone, too.”
I looked away from him and focused my gaze on the ice.
“Keep your word,” I said without looking at him.
The whistle blew, and my teammates began making their way to the ice. Forest, the twins, and Desmond walked without the vigor I wanted from them.
I nudged Desmond’s shoulder. “You tired? You have so much energy being a playboy, but you can’t last being a goalie for an entire game?”
Desmond pushed me with the energy I wanted. This guy was too easily riled up.
“Who’s tired, asshole? We’re just getting started.”
With those words, it seemed the others were fired up, too.
Forest huddled us, glancing at the score once. “I know that it’s difficult, but nothing is impossible. Put your

hands in.”
:
We placed our hands in the middle and yelled our team name.
“Glaciers!”

The cheers weren’t like they were before, so even the audience was fatigued. I glanced around, and some weren’t even watching the game anymore. For them, it was already a losing game.
Everything lined up inside my mind.
Margaret stepping down. Connor saying he’d leave Hope all alone. And this-the game. Our ticket to the championships.
There were way too many things at stake for me.
The record for the most goals in history was still in 1978, with five goals for one person. However, that was for one full game, and I only had a third of the game to do that.
One single period.
Twenty minutes.
I pursed my lips and glanced at Connor, who still had that awfully smug look in his eyes. He must think that adding on another bet on top of the existing one would only pressure me.
But it only made me want to win even more.
There were too many things at stake now, and I couldn’t afford to lose. Besides, it wasn’t like I was on a break for the past two weeks. I was playing with Harley, sharpening my skills. I was ready to unleash it in the proper
rink.
“Looks like I’ll just have to break a new record,” I muttered to myself just as the whistle blew.
The moment my skates began gliding on the ice, I knew. I was fast. Faster than I had been in a while.
My body remembered what my mind didn’t even have to think about.
After spending the past two weeks playing with Harley, I had forgotten just how much I missed this.
My teammates, however, were exhausted. I could see it in the way they dragged their feet after a play.
But then again, so did the other team.
They were tired, too.
Everyone was moving slower.
That was my advantage.
I shot forward.

The first player tried to block me, but he was half a second too slow. I slipped past him, feeling the familiar rush of adrenaline as I chased after the puck.
I caught it and didn’t hesitate.
My stick swung, and the puck flew straight into the net.
For one second, the entire arena went silent. Then, there were a few reluctant cheers from the audience.
6-2.
I looked toward the audience. They still probably thought it was a losing game, but they were watching much
closer now.
I glanced toward the Dreams.
They still didn’t look particularly worried.
One of them even laughed.
A fluke.
That was what they thought.
Who the hell could score five goals in one period? Five straight goals? Nobody.
At least, that was what they were thinking. And I needed them to keep thinking it.
I took off again.
The next few minutes became a blur.
I moved faster than everyone else.
Every time someone tried to close me in, I found another opening. Every time they tried to predict where I was going, I changed direction.
I stole the puck. One defender came at me, but I pushed harder. The puck slammed into the net.
6-3.
The arena erupted again.
This time, there was no way they could call it a fluke.
“Come on!” Forest yelled. “Everyone, move faster and tighter!”
They’d catch up soon. I knew that.
We needed another goal. We still had ten minutes left.

I found Scott at the side. He looked exhausted, but his eyes appeared sharper than before. I passed the puck so fast that the Dreams didn’t have time to react.
Scott caught it and scored.
6-4.
The crowd went insane.
Only two. Only two fucking goals left.
I glanced at the clock.
Nine minutes.
My lungs burned, but I couldn’t stop smiling.
We could do this.
We were actually going to-
The Dreams scored.
7-4.
“Shit.”
I clenched my jaw. I didn’t have the time to be angry.
The puck came back into play, and I chased it down. I struck it again until it hit the upper corner of the net.
7-5.
I got the puck again. A player came toward me, and I dodged him. Another tried, but I spun around him. With that, I shot.
Goal!
7-6.
The audience was already on their feet. I could hear them screaming.
Four minutes. Maybe three.
I didn’t know, and I couldn’t afford to look at the clock.
Everything had narrowed down to the ice beneath my skates and the net in front of me.
The Dreams definitely looked different now. Their smugness was gone, and they were watching me more

than ever.

The puck came back, and I chased it down to their net. My past injuries seemed to be coming back at that moment, making themselves known, but they weren’t as painful as before, so I could endure it.
I could feel another opening, and I took it.
7-7.
For a moment, I just stared at the net.
Then, the arena exploded into deafening cheers, the jeers long gone.
We were one goal away.
I didn’t even have time to glance toward Connor, but I could already imagine his face. That smug fucking expression was probably gone. His mouth was probably hanging open.
