Chapter 72

Hope’s POV

“Ugh, get out of my head,” I muttered, banging my head against the couch pillow.

Unfortunately, with every hit, my mind only seemed to conjure up Levi, making me even more annoyed by the situation. –

Our conversation from earlier kept replaying in my head despite my desperate attempts to stop it.

I wasn’t sure if I had heard him correctly.

No, I couldn’t have heard him correctly.

Levi Reeve would not have asked me to have sex with him.

“Did you hear what I said?” he repeated.

I finally walked around to stand in front of him to see if he was joking. I even discreetly pinched the outside of my thigh to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

“No, I don’t think I heard you correctly,” I muttered. “Did you just—”

“I asked you to have sex with me,” he repeated, and I nearly choked on my own saliva.

“I can’t get what happened between us in the car out of my mind, and it feels like I’m going crazy.”

My breathing became more ragged.

“And I keep getting distracted whenever you’re around. I feel like if I get it out of my system and we have sex, I’ll be able to understand why the hell I’m feeling this way.”

This time, my breathing stopped altogether.

His words suddenly crashed into the fragile hope hidden inside my heart-a hope I hadn’t even realized existed until that moment. Because he wasn’t asking me to have sex with him because he wanted me.

He was asking because he felt pent-up.

I bit my lip, not even knowing how to answer his question.

Yes?

No?

Maybe?

No.

I should say no.

“Think about it, Hope,” he said with a small smile that made my breath hitch. “Since I met you, it honestly feels like my mysophobia is getting better. It would help me play better, too,” he added quietly.

And that was it.

That was the end of our conversation because Beth came in to relay his new schedule. We hadn’t been able to speak after that, and here I was now, still thinking about every single word he’d said.

Chapter 72

Was it foolish of me to expect that he wanted to have sex with me because he genuinely wanted to?

Yeah.

I was definitely foolish..

At the same time, though, he had asked so politely that I couldn’t even bring myself to hate the way he’d asked

It was just that…

Maybe I had started expecting more.

Crap.

I had already tried to deny it. I had already promised myself this wouldn’t happen.

Yet here I was again.

I guess I was more attracted to ice than I thought.

I might actually have a crush on Levi.

I grabbed the pillow and screamed into it, my foot stomping against the couch as the realization finally settled in. Calling it a crush at this age felt like some kind of humiliation ritual.

“What are you doing?”

I immediately stopped and found Harley standing by the door, one hand still on the doorknob as he stared at me with a deeply concerned expression.

I realized how strange I must have looked, so I quickly straightened my posture and fixed my hair.

“I was just doing yoga,” I said with a wide smile.

He raised a brow before closing the door behind him.

“Well, you really do need to exercise more. Muscle-building is great, especially at your age. You’re approaching twenty-five soon, and your metabolism is definitely going to slow down.”

“You didn’t have to say all of that,” I grumbled, not appreciating the slight diss.

He merely shrugged before heading straight for the pantry to prepare himself a plate of the food I had cooked.

“Wash your hands,” I called out.

Unfortunately, he had already started eating. He smiled at me with his teeth on display and food still filling his mouth.

“Germs are good. They strengthen the immune system.”

I grimaced.

Goodness.

Boys were disgusting.

Levi was quite clean, though.

Crap.

I thought about him again.

I turned toward Harley, who was devouring his food and was already halfway through his second plate.

To be fair, he had just gotten back from practice. He was still a growing boy, which was insane because he was already too

grown.

I also couldn’t keep all of this to myself anymore.

Back then, Harley was the one constantly asking me for advice, but somehow this kid had grown up and started giving decent advice of his own.

“Hey,” I said before I could second-guess myself. “What would you do if your acquaintance suddenly asked you to have sex

with them?”

Harley immediately spat out the rice in his mouth, making my eyes widen.

“Lee!” I exclaimed. “Clean that up right now.”

He ignored me. Setting his plate down, he walked straight toward the couch.

“Someone asked you to hook up with them?” he asked with a slight frown. “Who is it? Is it that bastard Connor?”

“No,” I denied quickly. “It’s not about me-”

“It’s definitely about you,” he interrupted. “Why else would you be asking me this?”

“It’s Freya-”

“It’s not Freya because she would’ve already slept with the person if she was attracted to them. She sleeps with people based on/attraction. It’s definitely about you.”

I closed my eyes and leaned completely against the couch.

Of course he wouldn’t buy that.

“Well?” I muttered. “Are you not going to answer my question?”

“Do you like this person?” he asked.

And just like that, I froze again.

Why would he even ask that?
