Chapter 91
Hope’s POV
I looked at him like he had lost his mind.

However, his expression didn’t change. He just kept looking at me with that unwavering gaze-the kind that made my knees weak and somehow made me forget everything I had seen between him and Delaney tonight.
“But you and Delaney-”
“There’s nothing going on with us,” he cut me off right away. “And there never will be. You already know I don’t want anyone’s touch except yours.”
I just stared at him.
My thoughts seemed to move slower than they should have, struggling to catch up with what he had just said. Yet they all pointed toward the same impossible conclusion.
Was he saying…
That he thought about me?
That he…
Liked me?
A laugh escaped my lips before I could stop it.
“Did you drink?” I asked. It felt like the only explanation to his words.
“I don’t drink,” he deadpanned.
“It causes muscle loss.”
Under any other circumstance, I would have laughed. Instead, I simply stared at him. He looked too serious right now.
“I’m sober, Hope,” he said quietly. “So take my word seriously.”
His eyes locked onto mine.
“You’re making me fucking crazy.”
His voice dropped lower.
“I’ve never felt like this with anyone before.”
My breath caught. Without realizing it, I took a step backward.
Everything was happening too fast. Much too fast. I couldn’t help but think he was saying all of these because we had slept together.
“I think you’re confused,” I managed to say.
He bit his lower lip, appearing frustrated.
My eyes followed the movement before I could stop them.

Chapter 91
His lips had already turned red, as if he’d been worrying them all evening.
The sight sent an embarrassing rush of heat through my body.
He had no right looking that attractive while saying things like this.
I quickly forced those thoughts into the darkest corner of my mind.
He had to be confused.
It had to be because we’d slept together.
People became attached after things like that. Didn’t they? That explanation hurt far more than I expected.
Because somewhere inside me, a tiny, reckless part desperately wanted him to mean every word.
He clicked his tongue.
“You stubborn little chick,” he muttered, shaking his head.
His lips curved into the smallest smile.
“You won’t believe me until you see it for yourself, huh?”
“Huh?”
I was still struggling to process everything. He stepped closer. His smile slowly became a smirk.
Before I could react, he gently placed two fingers beneath my chin.
The touch was featherlight, like he was handling something precious.
He tilted my face toward his and leaned down, closer and closer, until we were almost at eye level.
His lashes. His eyes. The faint scent of his cologne.
Everything about him invaded my senses.
He was so close that I could feel the warmth of his breath brushing against my skin.
Without thinking, my eyes fluttered shut.
However, instead of his warm lips that I had grown accustomed to, a low chuckle reached my ears.
I opened my eyes.

Levi was still inches away, looking thoroughly entertained. There was amusement dancing inside those ridiculously beautiful eyes.
His smirk only grew wider when he realized what I’d been expecting.
Mortified, I shoved him backward.
I crossed my arms over my chest, trying to ignore the fire burning across my cheeks.
“I know you don’t believe that I like you yet,” he said.
My face somehow became even hotter.
Chapter 91
He actually said it out loud. It came out from his lips that he… liked me.
How was I supposed to react to that?
I looked at him again.
He was still wearing that infuriating smirk.
“Levi…”
“If I score three goals tomorrow,” he interrupted, “and we win…”
He folded his arms.
“Will you finally believe me?”

He had completely lost his mind. He wanted to perform a hat trick? Against the Minnesota Thunders? Even for Levi, that wasn’t something anyone could simply promise.
“You’re insane,” I said.
“I’ve heard that before.”
“You said your shoulder was hurting.”
“It is.”
“Then how are you planning to score three goals?”
He shrugged. “You’re underestimating me, Hope.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“I’m worried about you.”
The teasing disappeared from my voice.
“So stop acting like this isn’t a big deal.”
His expression softened ever so slightly.
“You shouldn’t push your body this hard.”
I sighed. “You shouldn’t risk making your injury worse just to prove something you’re only confused about.”
I hesitated before continuing.
“You should also stop convincing yourself that whatever you feel for me…,” I gestured awkwardly between us. “…is real.”
Screw me for having trust issues after everything that Connor had done to me. Even if I tried to deny it, the trauma he had caused over the course of our relationship and breakup still weighed down on me.
Silence settled between us.
When I looked back at him, I was hoping for this to drop it, just like Connor had done before. He never truly fought for me.
However, when I saw the look on Levi’s face, I nearly gasped. His jaw tightened. The playful expression disappeared
