Chapter 94

Hope’s POV

“What is up with Levi today?” Beth muttered, amazed as Levi had just scored his second goal within the first period.

My heart was still racing from both nervousness and anticipation. I didn’t think he would be this serious about it. A part of- me also thought he wouldn’t be able to do it. Three goals against the Minnesota Thunders by himself? Even if he was Levi Reeve, it still proved to be a very difficult challenge.

But he was proving each and every one of my assumptions wrong.

“Oh, I know what’s up with Levi today,” Aiden said in a teasing tone.

“Me too,” Lia chimed from beside him.

“Me three,” Forest, who was resting for a while, also tuned in while sweat dripped down his forehead. “Man’s playing like he’s got something to prove.”

I felt my face heat up. I kept my eyes fixed on the ice, refusing to acknowledge any of them.

Levi skated past our section again. He looked up and held up two fingers this time.

The smirk on his face was getting more attractive by the minute, and I wasn’t sure how much my heart could handle.

“Damn,” Lia muttered. “I’m falling for him.”

I turned to stare at her.

She chuckled. “I’m your biggest supporter. If you wo get together, I’m considering putting up a billboard. But girl, look at Levi. He’s so goddamn irresistible right now.”

I didn’t have to look to know, Lia. Everywhere I gazed, it felt like he was already haunting me.

“This is fun, though,” Forest said, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “The first time I saw Levi play like that was during his first year. And even then, he didn’t seem this enthusiastic.”

He paused, watching the ice like he was looking at his own son.

“Look,” he muttered. “He’s smiling while playing. It seems that whatever he wants to prove, he’s really determined to prove

it.”

I focused my gaze on Levi while Forest’s voice continued to drift through my senses.

He was right. Levi was smiling. Not his usual smirk-not the cold, controlled expression he wore like armor.

Austin Raye tried to stop him again. He came in for a hit, shoulder-first, trying to knock Levi off the puck.

However, with one shift of his weight, Raye went flying past him, slamming into the boards like a rookie who’d never played the game before.

The crowd howled with laughter. Raye scrambled to his feet, face red with humiliation.

Levi didn’t even look back.

He just kept moving. The puck against his stick seemed to obey his every command.

Levi pulled the puck back for a fake shot. The goalie bit the bait, and with that, Levi lifted it to the top corner.

The horn blared.

3-Q.

The crowd erupted into cheers so loud the arena shook, Levi’s name being chanted to oblivion.

And Levi just stood there, looking like a god.

Then, he looked at our side again-right at me.

He skated toward our section, moving through the chaos as if it didn’t exist.

He stopped directly in front of me, separated only by the glass. His chest was still heaving, his eyes dark with something I couldn’t name.

He held up three fingers and mouthed two words.

“Told you.”

After that, it felt impossible for the Minnesota Thunders to come back.

Levi didn’t score any more goals. From my point of view, it felt like he wasn’t trying to. But he did his best not to let anyone score either. It appeared he wanted the only score to be those three goals that he scored.

Which was insane, considering the Minnesota Thunders were considered one of the forerunners of the season. Yet the Glaciers were stomping on them like they were mere computer players.

The game only had a few minutes left. I could see how frustrated the Thunders were. Raye looked ready to throw his stick across the ice. Their goalie had slumped against the post, defeated.

But emanating from Levi’s confidence, the other players also moved with ease, determined to keep the score as it is.

Austin Raye tried one more time. He got the puck on a breakaway-his only chance.

Levi caught him.

They were both flying down the ice, Raye only ahead by a step. The crowd held its breath. Raye wound up for the shot, but Levi reached out at the perfect time.

His stick snaked between Raye’s legs, hooking the puck away at the last possible second.

The horns blared at that moment, signaling the end of the game.

The score was already final.

3-0.

Everyone around me celebrated. The bench emptied. Players flooded the ice. But again, it felt like I had tunnel vision, with Levi only within my view.

The reporters swarmed the ice, eager to get a scoop.

Meanwhile, I was eager to get away.

I knew I shouldn’t run away. But it was all so overwhelming. Looking at the scoreboard, it just felt more… real.

There was no running away from this. Even if I didn’t want to admit it, Levi had done exactly what he’d promised.

Chapter 94

And now I had no defenses left.
