Chapter 96
Levi’s POV

I entered the locker room and couldn’t help but smile. Damn, I was smiling too much these days… or did normal people just smile like this?
I had just told Hope how I felt about her, and it felt better than I’d imagined. I was telling the truth when I told her it was the first time I had ever felt this way.
She had pushed me away after we kissed for a few more minutes. Honestly, I wanted to stay there longer, but she said I should debrief with the team. She was right. I wouldn’t hear the end of it from Forest if I skipped the debriefing after the first game.
Not like I honestly needed it.
I crushed that game because I was thinking about Hope with every goal I sent into the post.
The moment I entered the locker room, I was greeted with silence.
I looked at them, running my fingers through my hair, when suddenly I felt someone behind me.
Before Desmond could cling to me, I grabbed his ear and pulled it upward.
“Oww, oww!” he exclaimed. “I just wanted to congratulate my bro for his goals and for scoring little Hope.”
“Let go. It freaking hurts, you know?”
I sighed and shoved him away.
“Shut up. You’re making a big deal out of this.”
Forest walked over and casually wrapped an arm around my shoulder.
He wiped fake tears from his eyes.
“I’m so proud of you, son,” he said dramatically. “I never thought this day would come. You’ve really improved day by day. You even let me touch you without any repercussions.”
“Want to challenge that?” I asked, raising a brow.
He grinned and immediately let go, raising both hands in surrender.
I couldn’t deny it, though.
I did feel different from who I used to be.
Out of all the guys, I was the most comfortable with Forest, Desmond, and the twins, but even then, I never let them get too close.
Yet somehow, getting close to Hope had made me closer to them, too.
“Where’s Hope?” Lia asked in a teasing tone.
I turned to her and smirked.
“She’s getting some fresh air.”

Chapter 96
She pursed her lips before turning away, looking far too giddy about the two of us.
At that moment, Desmond’s phone suddenly rang.
He checked the caller ID before answering.
“Hey, baby. Yeah, I’ll meet you later tonight. No worries.”
The call was brief, but I caught the way Lia’s expression changed.
I shrugged.
Maybe she just wasn’t in a good mood.
“New girlfriend already?” Scott asked.
Desmond smirked at him.
“Nah. I told you. I don’t do relationships. No strings attached, man.”
Forest massaged the bridge of his nose.
“I swear, one day, Desmond-you’ll meet your match. Just like Levi had.”

“I didn’t meet my match,” I said as I walked over to an empty bench, sitting and crossing my arms over my chest. “I’m no match for her. I’d already lost.”
A chorus of groans echoed throughout the locker room.
“Fuck,” Spencer cursed. “I didn’t think this day would come. Levi’s talking like a loverboy.”
I merely shrugged while Forest called everyone to settle down for the debriefing.
The room gradually quieted as he started talking about the match. But even as Forest spoke, I could feel someone staring at me from the corner of my eye.
I turned my head slightly and smirked the moment I saw who it was.
Of course. Who else could it be?
Connor.
He was glaring at me as though I had ruined his career when, in reality, there wasn’t anything to ruin in the first place.
He didn’t even have one yet.
He didn’t look away, and neither did I.
If he wanted a staring contest, then fine. I wasn’t planning on losing.
This guy had a lot of nerve trying to challenge me.
“Levi.”
Forest’s voice snapped me out of it.
“Are you alright?” he asked. “Is your shoulder okay after playing like that?”
I smirked.
