Chapter 98
Hope’s POV

I looked at myself in the mirror and fanned my face. Fortunately, my lips had finally calmed down. They were still red, but they weren’t nearly as swollen as before. It was all Levi’s fault, I’m telling you.
He wouldn’t stop biting my lips in the janitor’s closet. I’d actually had to physically restrain him just to stop him from kissing me again.
Still, I couldn’t help but smile as I remembered his words and the way he’d looked at me. Gosh, just thinking about it was already enough to kill me.
Never-not even once-had I imagined I’d end up dating Levi Reeve.
Wait…
Were we dating?
We should be dating… right?
He’d said he’d never felt this way before.
However, he never explicitly asked me.
Maybe I was reading too much into everything.
I shook my head and splashed my face one last time, trying to cool my burning cheeks. Just the thought of him was enough to make me blush like an idiot.
As I grabbed a few paper towels to dry my face, the restroom door suddenly opened, showing a person I didn’t want to see.
Delaney walked in, stopping in her tracks when she saw me.
I pursed my lips.
Of all people, it had to be her.
She somehow looked even angrier than usual, which honestly had to be a record because she always looked pissed whenever she was anywhere near me.
gaze immediately landed on my face. Then, slowly, her lips curled into a sneer.
“Oh, look who’s fucking happy.”
I frowned. That curse was completely uncalled for.
“I’m done using the bathroom,” I told her, not bothering to entertain whatever mood she was in. “It’s all yours.”
I took a step toward the door, but then she suddenly grabbed my arm. Her nails dug into my skin, making me suck in my breath.
I looked down.
Thin crimson lines were already appearing beneath her nails. Tiny beads of blood surfaced quickly, and judging by how deeply she’d dug into my arm, I knew it’d only get worse if I tried pulling away carelessly.
“What do you want?” I asked, forcing myself to meet her eyes instead of reacting to the pain.

Chapter 98
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” I asked sweetly. “Like being with your boyfriend?”
Her grip tightened. Pain shot up my arm, but I refused to flinch.
“I would,” she continued with a smirk, “but I don’t want him right now.”
My brows knitted together.
“I want Levi.”
The moment she uttered Levi’s name, I felt jealousy fill my veins, but I forced myself to smile anyway.
“Well,” I said casually, “I would’ve wanted my ex-boyfriend not to cheat on me.”
I shrugged.
“But I guess that didn’t happen.”
Her jaw clenched.
“We can’t always have everything we want, now can we?” I asked, my own smirk slowly appearing.
Her fingers dug even deeper into my skin. This time, I actually had to bite the inside of my cheek.
Crap.
This was definitely going to scar. I wrapped my fingers around her wrist.
She clearly wasn’t expecting me to fight back because her eyes widened ever so slightly. Despite how desperately she tried to hold on, I twisted my arm free.
Her nails dragged across my skin.
Fresh pain burned through my arm as several deeper scratches opened up, and I’caught sight of tiny streaks of blood staining the tips of her manicured nails.
I stepped backward, putting distance between us, and glared at her.
She didn’t even look guilty.
“I can give you Connor back,” she suddenly offered.
I looked at her in disbelief.
“What?”
She folded her arms.
“You can have Connor.”
“Just give me Levi.”
I almost laughed at her offer. Was this some kind of professional sports trade? Connor for Levi? Seriously?
I couldn’t believe she had actually said that with a straight face. I reached for the doorknob, unable to stop the amused smile tugging at my lips.
“You can continue enjoying my leftovers.”

I looked her directly in the eye.
“He’d always been bitter and trashy anyway.”
Her expression darkened.
“As for Levi…”
I couldn’t stop myself from smiling.
“Even if I gave him to you…
I slowly opened the door.
“I doubt he’d go to you.”
Delaney’s face turned bright red. She looked seconds away from exploding.
Not wanting to find out what that looked like, I hurried out of the restroom before she could lunge at me again.
The bathroom door had barely swung shut behind me when-
“UGH!”
A scream echoed from inside.
I couldn’t help smiling.
“She’s crazy,” I muttered under my breath.
There was honestly no other explanation.

After assessing all of the players-especially the main roster-it was already close to clocking-out time.
I honestly deserved a medal. I had barely survived all of their relentless teasing. Every single one of them brought up Levi today.
Still, I forced myself to focus.
We had another game next week. And not just any game. We were facing the Gotham Pucks.
I hadn’t expected we’d run into them this early in the season, but we were in the same bracket, so there was no avoiding it.
I should’ve gone home after checking the wins. However, the pain in my arm forced me to stay in the rehab room.
Ever since my confrontation with Delaney, my arm had been throbbing nonstop.
I’d been too busy working to notice earlier.
Now that everything had finally quieted down, the pain had become impossible to ignore.
I’d thrown my jacket over my shoulders the entire afternoon to hide the scratches. The last thing I needed was someone asking questions.
Slowly, I slipped the jacket off. I pursed my lips when the fabric slid over the wound.
“Ow.”

It looked worse than I’d expected.

The blood had already dried into thin reddish streaks across my skin, but the entire area had swollen. The scratches were angry and inflamed.
