Chapter 99

Hope’s POV

He had already grabbed another cotton swab and the tube of ointment before I could even respond.

Without a word, he squeezed a small amount onto the tip of the swab before gently taking my wrist. His brows knitted together into a deep frown as he examined the scrape on my arm.

He clicked his tongue.

Carefully, he dabbed the ointment onto my skin. It actually stung, so I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep mysel from making a sound.

“This doesn’t look like an accident, Hope,” he murmured, briefly lifting his gaze to meet mine.

His eyes searched my face, as though trying to find an answer I wasn’t giving him.

“Wait, Levi,” I said softly, instinctively trying to pull my arm away. “I’ll clean it myself. You’ll get dirty.”

Technically, it wasn’t even dirty. It was just my blood.

Still…

I knew him.

I knew how particular he was about cleanliness. I knew physical contact wasn’t exactly something he enjoyed with just anyone. The last thing I wanted was to make him uncomfortable because of me.

His grip tightened just enough to stop me.

He clicked his tongue again, appearing unimpressed with my attempt to escape.

Instead of letting go, he gently tugged me closer until I was standing right in front of him.

My heartbeat stumbled.

“I told you,” he said quietly, never taking his eyes off the scrape as he continued treating it. “I can do it for you.”

There wasn’t even the slightest hesitation in his voice.

Once he finished applying the ointment, he tossed the used swab into the trash nearby.

I thought he was done. Instead, his hand rose to my face.

His fingers settled beneath my chin, warm against my skin, gently guiding me to look at him.

My breath caught. Before I could even process what he was doing, his lips brushed against mine. I thought the kiss was going to be a quick peck, but in an instant, Levi inserted his tongue inside my mouth and licked my tongue before pulling back, a string of saliva coming between us.

When he finally pulled away, he stayed close enough that our foreheads nearly touched.

“Do you really think I’d be disgusted with you?” he asked quietly.

I couldn’t answer.

My mind felt like it had stopped working.

Chapter 99

His gaze remained fixed on mine.

“I told you,” he said again, slower this time. “You’re my only exception.”

I stared at him for a few seconds before finally managing to find my voice.

“That’s unfair.”

One corner of his lips lifted.

“What is?”

“You can’t just say things like that out of nowhere!”

Heat rushed straight to my face.

I quickly took a step back, fanning my cheeks with both hands like that would somehow stop the blush from spreading.

News flash-it didn’t. If anything, it only made me feel even more flustered.

I pointed accusingly at him.

“I’ve actually been meaning to ask you something.”

His expression softened.

“What is it?”

“You’ve… been in a lot of relationships before, haven’t you?”

His answer came very quickly. “No.”

“I’ve never met someone I wanted to date until you.”

There he went again! Another sentence capable of making my heart forget how to function.

How did he even say those things with such a straight face? Was he completely unaware of the effect they had on me? Or was he doing this on purpose?

My face continued growing warmer with every passing second.

I should’ve stopped talking. I really should’ve. But instead, I only dug myself deeper.

It felt like standing at the edge of a hill, knowing I shouldn’t take another step, and doing it anyway.

“Then…” I hesitated. “How are you so good at saying things like that?”

He simply looked at me, waiting and encouraging me to continue.

I swallowed.

“A-And…”

The words suddenly became much harder to say.

“How are you so good at k-kissing and all that other stuff? It’s not something an inexperienced person can do without any practice!”

The corner of his mouth slowly curled upward. That tiny smirk told me I’d made a mistake.

Chapter 99

He started walking toward me.

One step.

I stepped back..

He took another step.

I stepped back again.

The teasing smile on his face grew just a little wider each time. Until the backs of my knees bumped against the edge of the examination bed.

I had nowhere else to go.

I sat down with a quiet squeak.

He stopped directly in front of me.

“Levi…” I muttered. “The door’s still open.”

My gaze went toward the hallway.

“What if someone comes in?”

His expression didn’t change.

“I honestly don’t care.”

“But I do,” I retorted.

I looked back at him.

Something softened in his eyes.

“The boys already went home,” he assured me. “Only a few staff members are still around.”

“They don’t usually come in here.”

I glanced once more toward the doorway anyway.

“You sound really confident.”

“I am.”
