Grant scoffed. "Because the day after tomorrow is Eleanor's birthday party."
"You've used my grandmother for all these years. Isn't it time you paid her back?"
Sienna's breath hitched.
Eleanor Gauthier was the only person in the Gauthier family who had ever shown her genuine warmth.
Sienna had grown up with her own grandmother, and when she passed away, the heartbreak had been unbearable.
The moment she met Eleanor, she felt a profound resemblance between the two women, which instinctively drew her to care for the elderly matriarch.
Eleanor had adored her in return, even single-handedly orchestrating her marriage to Grant.
But in Grant's eyes, all of Sienna's kindness toward his grandmother was nothing more than a calculated, manipulative scheme.
Sienna felt as if a blunt object had slammed into her chest. She opened her mouth to speak, a lump forming in her throat.
Lyla spoke up from the side, her tone laced with passive-aggressive sweetness. "Sienna, this is where you're out of line."
"Eleanor is getting older, and she dotes on you the most. If you don't show up now, she'll be absolutely heartbroken."
She let out a theatrical sigh, playing the role of the perfectly reasonable peacemaker.
"I know it's a bit inconvenient for you to live under the same roof as us right now, but I honestly don't mind. After all, we're doing this for Eleanor."
"If you really insist on staying at this hotel, the least you could do is come back for the weekend."
"I..."
Before Sienna could get a word out, Lyla feigned a look of utter shock and cut her off.
"Is that too much to ask? If two days is out of the question, surely you can manage three?"
"Especially since your divorce with Grant isn't finalized yet. It's incredibly inappropriate for you to be booking hotel rooms with strange men. Think of the scandal if word got out."
Grant's expression darkened even further at her words.
"Sienna, I'm only going to say this one last time."
"You will be at that birthday party, and you will move back into the estate!"
His tone left absolutely no room for negotiation. Having delivered his ultimatum, he turned on his heel and stormed out of the room.
Hardly twenty minutes had passed when her phone suddenly rang.
The name flashing on the screen made her freeze.
'Samuel'.
Sienna stared at her father's name for a long time before she finally gave in and answered.
"Dad."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the line before Samuel's voice barked out, carrying his usual trademark impatience.
"Where the hell are you? Get back to the house immediately."
No greetings, no concern for her well-being. Just a direct, callous order.
Sienna leaned back in her chair. "What do you want?"
"Cut the bullshit! I said come home, so get your ass over here!"
"If you're not here in thirty minutes, I'm going straight to Grant's office to make a scene! Let's see whose reputation gets ruined then!"
