Sienna leaned against the easel, her fingertips brushing across the stack of expensive Belgian linen canvases.
Lucas had prepared everything perfectly.
All the paints were arranged exactly the way she used to like them.
She reached out and picked up a brush, her thumb lightly rubbing the wooden handle.
It had been eight years since she last touched one.
She tried to squeeze a dab of cobalt blue onto the palette, but her wrist trembled uncontrollably.
Too much paint oozed out, piling into a thick, sticky clump.
Sienna let out a self-deprecating laugh; her body was failing far faster than she had anticipated.
Just maintaining a steady grip on the brush felt like a Herculean task now.
A sudden, violent knock echoed from the door.
It wasn't Lucas.
Lucas always knocked with a polite rhythm, but this sound carried a brutal force, as if the person wanted to rip the door right off its hinges.
Sienna set the brush down and walked over to open it.
Grant stood in the doorway, his face dark and furious.
Lyla was right behind him.
Clinging to his arm, Lyla wore a pristine white dress, her face perfected with a flawless no-makeup makeup look.
Grant stepped into the room, scanning the spacious suite as if hunting for someone, and only after confirming Sienna was alone did his gaze land on the easel by the window.
"That guy sure is generous with you."
Grant's voice was frigid.
"You just left my house and immediately checked into the most expensive hotel in the city. I have to admit, Sienna, your speed at finding your next meal ticket is impressive."
So he thought she had found another man—no wonder he looked so enraged.
Sienna stood her ground, gripping the doorframe until her knuckles turned white.
"Don't you think you're overstepping your boundaries by coming here to check up on me, Mr. Gauthier?"
She shifted her attention to Grant. "I signed the divorce papers. Why are you still here?"
Grant stared at her pale face.
For some inexplicable reason, seeing her look so fragile only fueled the blazing fire in his chest.
"Did you forget that the mandatory cool-off period isn't over yet, Sienna?"
He took a menacing step forward, his towering frame practically swallowing her in his shadow.
"As long as the divorce isn't finalized, you are still my wife. Getting a hotel room with some random guy—do you think I'm dead?"
Sienna found the sheer hypocrisy laughable.
"Did you ever truly treat me like I was your wife?"
A flicker of guilt flashed across Grant's eyes, but he quickly masked it with his usual icy demeanor.
"Come back with me."
Sienna didn't move an inch. "Why should I?"
