Sienna slowly raised her eyes, acting as if she had only just noticed him. A perfectly measured look of surprise crossed her face.
"Grant, what are you doing here?"
Immediately after, the surprise faded, leaving behind nothing but frosty indifference.
"Showing up uninvited is incredibly rude."
Grant's chest seized up, choking on his own frustration.
She had intentionally unblocked him and fed him all those ambiguous, leading lines, yet here she was openly dating Lucas!
And now that he had taken the initiative to come find her, he was the rude intruder?
He forced himself to ignore the fact that she was addressing him so formally. Staring a hole right through her, he forced out, "I was just passing by and decided to sit for a while."
He stretched his lips into a strained smirk, desperately trying to look natural. "You don't mind, do you?"
"I do."
Sienna replied ruthlessly. She lowered her head and resumed drawing, the pencil scratching rhythmically against the paper.
Lucas offered a perfectly timed chuckle. He slid a slice of tiramisu in front of Sienna, carved off a small piece with his fork, and held it out to her.
"Eat something first."
Sienna took the bite straight from his hand, her eyes curving into happy crescents. "The sweetness is perfect."
Proceeding to completely ignore Grant, Sienna and Lucas plunged back into their conversation. They discussed a recent boutique art exhibition, occasionally dropping into debates about pigment mixing and canvas textures.
They sat incredibly close to one another. Whenever Lucas spoke, he would lean his body slightly toward her, and whenever Sienna replied, her fingertips would mindlessly tap the table in relaxed rhythm.
Grant sat right across from them, looking entirely like an unwelcome third wheel.
He didn't understand a single piece of the technical jargon they were using, completely incapable of breaking into their world.
He could only sit there and suffocate in the dense, warm bubble of intimacy that flowed between them, firmly walling him out.
Watching them act so intimately, a suffocating tsunami of rage and blinding jealousy crashed over him.
