"Ten million?" Sienna repeated the number.
"Yeah, ten million!" Simon said with absolute entitlement.
"You just caused Dad to take a massive fall. Between medical bills and emotional distress, ten million is a bargain."
Fiona chimed in to support him. "Sienna, your dad isn't young anymore. A fall like that is serious. If he messed up his back, who's going to take care of this family?"
"If your husband ever abuses you in the future, your dad is the one who will have to stand up for you. Paying this money is practically an investment."
Sienna almost laughed out loud.
These people could truly invent an excuse for anything.
"So, if I don't give you ten million dollars right now, you're not letting me leave?"
"What do you think?" Samuel spat.
Sienna nodded and pulled her phone out of her bag.
"Fine. I'm calling the police."
Samuel froze. "Why the hell are you calling the cops?"
"Someone is trying to extort me for ten million dollars." Sienna dialed 911 right in front of them. "I think the police should handle this."
Fiona panicked and lunged to grab the phone. "Are you out of your mind?! We're your parents!"
Sienna dodged her easily, but she didn't anticipate Simon rushing her from the side.
He violently snatched the phone from her grip, powered it off, and shoved it into his pocket.
"If you want to call the cops so bad, come and get it."
Sienna was already incredibly frail, and despite being older than Simon, he was still a man.
With the physical difference, getting her phone back was going to be impossible.
Just then, a loud commotion erupted outside the front door.
A group of burly men armed with baseball bats kicked their way inside, smashing their weapons into every piece of furniture in their path.
"Samuel, it's time to pay up that hundred and forty million!"
$140 million?
Sienna's mind buzzed the moment she heard the number.
Samuel had never intended to tell her the truth. The five million was just the bait to lure her home; the $140 million was the real debt.
The leader of the pack was a middle-aged man with a buzz cut and a thick gold chain hanging around his neck. Five or six heavily built thugs trailed behind him, flipping tables as soon as they walked in.
The teapot on the coffee table was swept onto the floor, shattering into pieces.
Fiona let out a high-pitched scream and curled into a ball in the corner.
Simon's arrogant swagger completely vanished, his legs shaking like leaves in the wind.
Sienna stared at Fiona, her eyes a complex storm of years of accumulated disappointment mixing with a bone-chilling disgust.
Fiona didn't even look away, continuing her desperate sales pitch.
"She's been obedient and hardworking since she was a kid! Not only can she serve you hand and foot, but she can also..."
"Enough!"
Sienna didn't shout, but the icy edge in her voice successfully choked Fiona off.
Everyone in the living room turned to stare at her.
Sienna pulled her gaze from Fiona and turned to Laird Vane.
"The money they owe you has absolutely nothing to do with me."
With that, she turned to walk out.
Samuel immediately blocked her path, snapping viciously, "My blood runs in your veins! You think you can just say this has nothing to do with you? Keep dreaming!"
Simon suddenly stepped up to the thug leader and suggested, "Look, we don't have the money, but her husband does."
"She's married to Grant Gauthier. The CEO of the Gauthier Group."
"One hundred and forty million is pocket change to the Gauthiers. Just give us a few days, and we'll definitely get you the money!"
Laird raised an eyebrow. "The Gauthier Group?"
