Her gaze drifted lightly over the tear-stained Lyla standing behind him. The implication was crystal clear.
Grant felt like something had lodged in his throat.
Of course he knew Lyla was faking it. The 'bug' was nothing more than a pathetic excuse to grab his attention out of sheer jealousy.
But what could he say?
Expose the lie of another woman who was only acting out because she loved him, right in front of Sienna?
That would only make him look like a bigger joke.
"Lyla was just startled," he defended stiffly, aware of how unconvincing he sounded.
"Is that so?" Lucas let out a soft chuckle, the sound laced with blatant mockery.
"It seems Mr. Gauthier's date startles quite easily."
The comment was a needle, piercing directly into Grant's most sensitive nerve.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Grant's gaze instantly turned predatory.
"Nothing at all." Lucas's expression remained cordial, but his eyes grew cold. "Just a friendly reminder for Mr. Gauthier to keep a tighter leash on his people so they don't disturb others."
With that, he completely ignored Grant, bypassing him with Sienna's hand securely in his as they headed straight for the exit.
Grant stood frozen, staring at their intertwined fingers and Sienna's unapologetically retreating figure. The blood in his veins felt like it was flowing backward.
He wanted to chase after them. He wanted to violently pry that offensive hand away from Sienna's.
But behind him, Lyla was still sobbing and sniffling.
"Grant... I didn't mean to... I swear I saw a bug..."
Her crying grated against his ears like nails on a chalkboard, driving him insane.
Grant whipped around, his eyes as cold as ice.
"Shut up."
Lyla's sobbing came to a screeching halt.
