She arched an eyebrow and unhurriedly walked over to pull the door open.
The man outside looked weathered by the night; his suit jacket was draped over his arm, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone, revealing the sharp lines of his neck.
A heavy, unyielding gloom clouded his features, yet a dark fire burned in the depths of his eyes.
"What brings Mr. Gauthier here so late at night?" Sienna leaned casually against the doorframe, making no move to invite him inside.
Grant cut straight to the chase.
"You are coming back with me."
Sienna froze for a moment, then let out a soft laugh.
"Back where? To Gauthier Manor?"
Grant stared at her, enunciating every word. "Lyla is pregnant, and she needs someone to take care of her."
"You almost caused her to miscarry today. You need to take responsibility for that."
The air fell dead silent for two seconds.
The amusement faded from Sienna's face piece by piece, leaving nothing behind but an icy mockery.
"She faked the fall. I didn't do anything. And now you want me to wait on her hand and foot? Why should I?"
Grant's voice was glacial. "Because you are carrying a bastard."
He bit out the words with heavy emphasis, as if trying to smash all his accumulated disgust and fury straight into her face.
Sienna's pupils constricted imperceptibly.
Even now, he still refused to believe her.
But it didn't matter. She had given up hoping for anything from this man a long time ago.
"Grant." Sienna's voice was as cold as ice. "Whose child I'm carrying is none of your business! Besides, we already signed the divorce papers."
"Forget the divorce papers. Even if we were legally divorced, it wouldn't erase the vicious things you've done."
Grant took a menacing step forward, towering over her with overwhelming authority.
"You deliberately pushed Lyla today and nearly cost her the baby. I am going to make you pay for that."
He lowered his voice, every syllable dripping with a chilling threat. "Go and take care of her. Consider it your atonement."
Atonement?
Sienna chewed on that word in her mind, nearly laughing out loud.
The trauma he and Lyla had inflicted on her was still fresh, yet here he was, demanding that she—the actual victim—atone.
