The morning sun filtered through the mist in the mountain woods, spilling onto the villa's terrace.

The air after the rain was crisp and fresh, carrying a tranquility that settled the soul.

Sienna woke up very early.

She didn't go downstairs. Instead, wearing her robe, she stood silently in front of the second-floor bedroom's floor-to-ceiling windows.

Outside, the new security detail Lucas had brought in was dressed in uniform black, patrolling in small groups across every corner of the property. They acted as a silent, impenetrable fortress.

This hidden villa in the mountains had been transformed by Lucas into an ironclad sanctuary, entirely shielding her from the storms of the outside world.

A warmth bloomed in her chest, but it was quickly followed by a crushing sense of burden.

Lucas had done far too much for her.

So much that she felt like a black hole, constantly dragging those around her into a bottomless vortex of danger.

His command from the night before—"bring the heavy artillery"—still echoed in her ears.

That wasn't just basic defense; that was the stance of someone fully prepared for a bloody gang war with a kingpin like Cillian.

She couldn't keep doing this.

Endlessly running, endlessly hiding, pushing all the risk onto Lucas—that was absolutely not what she wanted. The Sullivans were still in Metropolis. Her parents and her entire life were rooted there.

She couldn't just play the ostrich, bury her head in the sand, and pretend none of this had anything to do with her.

A soft knock sounded at the door, followed by Zara's voice. "Ms. Sawyer, are you awake? Mr. Lowery asked me to check what you'd like for breakfast."

"I'm fine, I don't really have an appetite." Sienna turned around. "Where is Lucas?"

"He's in the study handling some business."

Sienna changed her clothes and headed straight for the study.

The door was slightly ajar. Lucas was sitting behind the desk, a laptop open in front of him. Wearing a Bluetooth earpiece, he was speaking fluent French to the person on the other end of the line.

He looked completely focused, his brow furrowed as if dealing with an incredibly difficult problem.

Seeing Sienna walk in, he immediately murmured, "One moment," into the phone, pulled off the earpiece, and let his expression soften. "Why didn't you sleep a little longer? I know you didn't get much rest last night."

"I couldn't sleep." Sienna sat down across from him, her eyes dropping to the laptop screen, which was filled with dense spreadsheets and data.
