After all, she was going to die soon, and every ounce of her remaining energy was being poured into staying upright and painting.
She also had to prepare for the upcoming competition Hunter mentioned, leaving her absolutely zero time to clock into The Gauthier Group.
"Eleanor, I really don't think it's a good idea. I'm afraid I'd just get in the way instead of helping."
"Who needs you to help? You'll just sit in an office, sip on some coffee, and casually flip through documents. If you don't understand something, just ask Grant."
Eleanor made it sound completely natural. "Besides, if you two spend more time together, it'll be good for your relationship."
Relationship? The man didn't have a shred of affection for her; he practically despised the air she breathed.
Plus, Grant definitely wouldn't want her at the company, and she had no desire to walk straight into a miserable situation.
"Eleanor, it's really not necessary. I..."
"Fine." Grant suddenly spoke up.
Sienna froze. Even her eyelashes trembled as she stared in disbelief that Grant would agree so easily, without a second of hesitation.
Didn't he absolutely hate it when she followed him to the office before?
Eleanor was also taken aback for a second, but a radiant smile quickly bloomed across her face, her joy impossible to hide.
"That's more like it! Sienna will go to the office tomorrow. You make sure her arrangements are handled."
Grant's expression remained flat. He didn't even let his gaze linger, accepting this monumental demand as though it were the most trivial administrative task on his desk.
Sienna stood perfectly still, her fingernails digging slightly into her palms. Even though every fiber of her being screamed against it, she knew it was too late to back out now.
With things pushed to this point, protesting would only make her look incredibly ungrateful.
Left with no choice, she conceded.
...
The two had planned to leave that night, but Eleanor practically strong-armed them into staying.
In order to keep their impending divorce a secret, they had no choice but to share a bedroom.
The moment the door clicked shut, the temperature in the room plummeted to freezing.
Grant tossed his jacket over the back of a chair, his voice hard and cold.
"Sienna, are you happy now?"
Grant stared at her, a sudden, inexplicable surge of irritation flaring up in his chest.
She used to never act like this.
Before, a single dismissive comment from him would have her desperately asking questions, terrified he was annoyed, terrified he would leave, terrified he wouldn't come home.
Now, she was just standing there, uncomfortably quiet, refusing to spare him even a sliver of emotional reaction.
It made him highly uneasy, but his ego refused to let him ask why.
Finally, he just let out a cold scoff. "Good to know you understand your place."
He then added with a look of pure disgust, "Don't even think about sleeping in the same bed as me."
"Fine," Sienna answered flatly, without an ounce of emotion, and calmly walked over to the sofa.
Grant stood rooted to the spot, watching her movements as his expression darkened even further.
"You're seriously sleeping there?"
Was she, a pregnant woman, actually planning to sleep on the sofa all night?
