Sienna stood in the freezing midnight wind. His words felt like a surgical scalpel, flawlessly slicing away her very last shred of warmth.
Eleanor, the only person who had ever truly treated her well, had now become the most convenient card in Grant's hand.
She wanted to fight back, to refuse, but ultimately, she turned around and headed back into the building.
But this was the last time. He would never use Eleanor to blackmail her again.
On her way back, she decisively dragged Grant's number into her blacklist.
...
The next morning, Grant didn't wait for Sienna and went to the company alone.
Barely any sunlight reached the basement, and Sienna had worked late into the night.
When she woke up, she was shocked to realize she had slept until one in the afternoon.
She was doomed.
She struggled to sit up, her legs incredibly weak. After a quick wash, she hurried out the door.
Hearing the noise, Susan looked up and gave her a sarcastic sneer.
"Oh, look who's awake. Why didn't you just sleep forever?"
Sienna couldn't be bothered to respond and walked straight toward the door.
Furious at being ignored, Susan snapped, "Mr. Gauthier said before he left that you have to figure out your own way to work. No car for you."
The area was remote, with barely any cars around, and the buses into the city had stopped running. Without a car, getting to the company was next to impossible.
Sienna paused her steps and replied expressionlessly.
"I don't care."
"You!" Susan's veins popped in anger. "Fine. Let's see how you manage to get there."
The sky outside was gloomy, and the wind was howling.
She stepped outside and tried to order a ride on her phone, but because it was so far out, no driver accepted the request for a long time.
After waiting a bit longer, she gave up and just started running.
She had been absent for the entire morning without an excuse. Who knew how a certain someone was spinning the story to Eleanor.
Dammit.
She hadn't run far before she started panting heavily. A moment later, a wave of intense nausea seized her, and her vision began to blur.
Suddenly, her legs gave out, and she pitched forward.
"I texted you this morning to remind you about your second shot, but you never replied."
"I was worried something happened, so I came over."
Sienna's grip on the glass tightened. She had almost forgotten that today was the day for her vaccine.
Lucas had just reminded her yesterday.
"Your fever hit 103.6 degrees, and your blood pressure was dangerously low. The doctor said if I had been any later..."
He didn't finish the sentence, but Sienna understood better than anyone.
She was going to die.
"I owe you another favor. If there's anything I can do for you in the future, just name it."
With that, she suddenly pulled out the IV needle, rushing to get out of bed.
Lucas asked in shock, "What are you doing?"
"Thank you for today, but I have to go to work. I won't bother you anymore."
Hearing this, Lucas was so stunned he couldn't speak for a long time.
