Sienna's grip on the phone tightened.
On the other end, Samuel was still screaming, his voice tangled with Fiona's hysterics and Simon's swearing. It sounded like a chaotic, toxic mess.
Sienna's voice dropped to a bone-chilling temperature as she spat out two words: "Go ahead."
Without a second thought, she hung up.
Setting the phone down, Sienna picked up her glass of water, which had gone completely cold, and took a sip.
"What happened?"
"Trouble?"
Sienna raised her eyes. "Nothing."
"Sienna."
Whenever Hadley used her first name like that, she wasn't messing around.
Sienna looked at her.
Hadley leaned back in her chair, staring straight at her. She didn't press for details, but her penetrating gaze was far more intimidating than a barrage of questions.
Sienna averted her eyes. "It's really nothing. Just some family drama."
Hadley didn't push any further, but she noticed the faint sheen of sweat on Sienna's palms when she set the glass down.
She knew something was wrong.
Stepping out of the club, the night air was biting.
As Sienna stood by the curb waiting for her car, Hadley stepped up from behind and draped a coat over her shoulders.
"Painting is important, but you have to take care of your health. Do you hear me?"
Sienna's heart skipped a beat. Had Lucas told her she was dying?
Hadley continued, "You've lost so much weight recently. It's obvious you aren't eating properly. I'd rather have you healthy and alive than just painting."
A sudden warmth spread through Sienna's chest, leaving her so overwhelmed with emotion she didn't know what to say.
Hadley didn't expect a response, waving her off casually. "The 'Emerging Voices' competition is in six days. For the next week, you don't need to worry about a single thing. Just focus on your art. I'll handle everything else."
Sienna nodded.
The car pulled up quickly. Before climbing in, Sienna looked back at Hadley.
"Hadley, thank you."
Simon, on the other hand, had attempted to dress up, but the absurd amount of gel in his hair made it gleam under the lobby lights. His left hand was wrapped in heavy bandages, playing up the victim card perfectly.
The moment the trio stepped inside, the entire atmosphere of the lobby shifted.
One of the receptionists looked up, her professional smile freezing instantly.
"Excuse me... do you have an appointment?"
Samuel slammed his hand down onto the reception desk, his finger jabbing right toward the woman's nose.
"Cut the crap! Tell Grant to get down here!"
The entire lobby went dead silent.
Employees halted in their tracks, every set of eyes locking onto the spectacle.
The receptionist flinched but, having been trained by the Gauthier Group, quickly regained her composure.
"Sir, you need a prior appointment to see Mr. Gauthier..."
"Appointment my ass!" Samuel bellowed at the top of his lungs. "I'm his father-in-law! Does his wife's own father need an appointment?"
The moment the words left his mouth, the hushed whispers echoing through the lobby erupted into a frenzy.
