Samuel felt a cold chill run down his spine under her intense gaze. His eyes darted nervously, and his lips trembled before he finally managed to squeeze out an answer.

"What past? Stop acting like a lunatic."

"We're already at this point, and you still plan on hiding it from me?"

Sienna's voice was completely flat, but every word struck like a hammer shattering ice. "You were quick enough to sell my life as collateral to those people, but now you suddenly want to play dumb?"

Hearing this, Fiona aggressively puffed out her chest.

"What do you mean 'sell'? You grew up eating our food—what's wrong with paying off a little family debt? Besides, we told you to go beg Grant! Who told you to run over here all by yourself? Getting caught is your own stupid fault."

Hunter's stomach churned in sheer disgust at that twisted logic.

She rolled up her sleeves and delivered a vicious slap across the woman's face.

Smack!

Fiona shrieked, clutching her stinging cheek as her eyes practically bulged out of her head.

"You dare hit me?!"

"You're damn right I hit you!" Hunter spat viciously.

Fiona's face contorted in absolute rage. She lunged forward wildly, only to be effortlessly blocked by Lucas.

Seeing his biological mother struck, Simon didn't even step in to help; instead, he roughly yanked her back.

"Mom, just stop making a scene."

Lucas shifted his gaze to Samuel. His tone wasn't loud, but it carried a suffocating weight.

"Spit it out. What is her real background?"

Lucas hadn't entirely believed their previous claims either, but it was obvious Sienna wouldn't let this go until she had the absolute truth.

Because of this burning question, she had actually dared to venture into an underground casino alone off a single morning phone call.

If he didn't help her uncover the truth now, there was no telling what reckless lengths she might go to next.

A cold sweat broke out across Samuel's back under the younger man's stare.

Standing beneath the streetlamp with his sleeves rolled up to reveal lean, powerful forearms, Lucas looked flawlessly pristine—devoid of any thuggish aura.

Sienna curled her fingers inward, gripping the edge of the suit jacket draped over her.

She had actually suspected it for a long time.

But hearing it confirmed out loud still left a hollow void in her chest.

All those years, she thought she just wasn't obedient enough, wasn't sensible enough. She thought that was why her parents never loved her and always hurled the cruelest insults her way.

She assumed the family favored Simon simply because he was a boy.

It turned out, none of that was true.

From the very beginning, she had just been an outsider.

Hunter was the first to break the silence with a vicious curse.

"You aren't even her real parents, yet you had the nerve to make her pay off your massive debts? You threw her to a casino to save your own skins? I swear, even the devil himself would be taking notes from you psychos."

Fiona flushed red under the reprimand.

"Do you think raising her was free? What orphaned kid doesn't cost money to feed and clothe? She married Grant now, so what's wrong with helping out the family that raised her?"
