"What?" Grant's mind went entirely blank.
The media?
How did they find this place?
Regency Private Hospital belonged to the Lowerys. It had the tightest security in the city. How could the news leak so fast?
His first instinct was to glare at Lucas, his eyes filled with accusation. Was this his doing? Did he want to blow this out of proportion and humiliate him?
But Lucas didn't even twitch an eyebrow. He simply stared back with a glacial look that clearly said: Deal with your own mess, don't try to pin it on me.
Leaning heavily on Grant's arm, Lyla hopped forward slightly, her voice laced with manufactured panic.
"Grant, what are we going to do? If they get a picture of us together here, who knows what those reporters will write."
As she spoke, she shot a rapid, sideways glance at the closed hospital door, a smug smile curling at the corner of her lips where no one could see.
Of course they were here. She called them.
On the way to the hospital, she had used a burner account to anonymously tip off the most aggressive paparazzi in the business.
She wanted a spectacle.
The bigger the mess, the harder it would be for Grant to distance himself from her. Once this became a public scandal, that bitch Sienna would never be able to crawl her way back.
Grant was too frantic to notice Lyla's subtle shift in demeanor. His mind was entirely consumed by his family's reputation and the company's stock price.
Samuel Sawyer's online post had already thrown the Gauthier Group into chaos. If the press caught him escorting his "mistress" to visit his hospitalized wife, the fallout would be catastrophic.
Compared to Grant's visible panic, Lucas remained unnervingly calm outside the room.
He casually glanced at Grant's assistant, then issued an order to his own security detail.
"Lock down all access points. Initiate a level-one security protocol. Not even a fly gets in without my say-so."
"She needs to go out there and clarify things." Grant raised his voice.
"You know exactly what those rumors are doing to my family. She started this mess, so it is her responsibility to end it."
Propped up against her pillows, Sienna heard every single word.
She pulled a mocking smile.
Even now, all he cared about was his family's image. All he wanted was to use her as a human shield for his own mistakes.
"Clarify what?" Lucas's voice was pure ice. "Clarify that you're such a useless piece of trash you didn't even know your own wife had a miscarriage? Or clarify that you almost killed her for the sake of your mistress?"
"What the hell are you talking about." Grant exploded like a cornered animal.
Sienna cared entirely too much about that baby. She had been banking on it to keep him tied to her. There was no way she would ever let a miscarriage happen.
