"Eleanor, slapping her is the same as slapping me! I didn't bring Lyla here to be humiliated!"

Just then, the sound of footsteps approached from the doorway. Nathaniel and Madeline Gauthier walked in, their expressions dark.

The moment Madeline entered and saw the toxic scene, her brows knitted together tightly.

"Mom, why are you out of bed? The doctor said you need to rest!" Madeline rushed over to support the older woman, though her gaze cut toward Sienna like a knife.

"You absolute jinx! Nothing good ever happens when you're around! Mom only fainted because of you!"

What?

Grant's head spun, and he froze in place.

His grandmother... had fainted?

"The doctor said if we'd been even a little later, she might not have made it..." Nathaniel's voice was deathly grim as he looked at his disappointing son.

He then walked up to Grant, keeping his voice so low only the two of them could hear. "There's no other way. Your grandmother insists on protecting Sienna. For the sake of her health, just swallow your pride for now. You can't cost your grandmother her life over a woman."

Grant was utterly bewildered.

He thought his grandmother was merely angry; he hadn't realized the consequences had been so severe.

He looked at the older woman's pale face, and the blinding fury within him felt like it had been doused by a bucket of ice water, extinguishing completely.

Supported by Sienna, Eleanor slowly sat back down on the sofa.

She closed her eyes. When she reopened them, there was nothing left but bone-chilling coldness and disappointment.

Her gaze swept past everyone else, finally landing on Grant.

"You, get on the floor and apologize to Sienna."

Eleanor's voice wasn't loud, but it carried the weight of a mountain.

In an instant, the room was plunged into shock.

Nathaniel panicked as well, shooting a frantic glare at his son. "Grant!"

Even his father was taking that woman's side?

He looked at Sienna, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned white.

Before he could even move, Lyla suddenly rushed out from behind him.

Tears streaming down her face, she threw herself in front of Grant, looking at Eleanor with a trembling, broken voice.

"Eleanor, please don't force Grant... It's all my fault. I'm just not as exceptional as Sienna, I couldn't win your affection."

"If someone has to apologize, I'll do it for him."

Before anyone could react, Lyla's legs gave out, and she collapsed heavily onto the floor.

She dropped straight down, prostrating herself directly in front of Sienna.
