The heavy thud was piercingly loud in the silent living room.

She sat slumped on the floor, her legs hitting the marble tiles. The white dress fanned out around her, making her look all the more fragile and pathetic.

She tilted her tear-streaked face up, looking at Sienna with a voice that was shaking so hard it seemed to shatter.

"Sienna, I'm begging you."

The living room was so quiet that the faint click of prayer beads was audible.

"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have appeared. I shouldn't have pushed your marriage to this point," Lyla sobbed. "You can punish me however you want. Even if you hit me or curse me out, I won't complain."

"Just forgive Grant, please. Stop making things difficult for him, okay?"

As she spoke, she actually reached out to tug at Sienna's hem, but Sienna effortlessly sidestepped her.

Everyone in the room was stunned by her sudden dramatic display.

Madeline opened her mouth, about to say something, but swallowed it back down, a trace of pity flashing in her eyes.

Grant's heart violently lurched, as if a heavy weight had crushed it.

He immediately bent down to pull her up. "Lyla, don't beg her. She doesn't deserve it!"

But Lyla clamped down on his hand, refusing to budge. She kept her posture stiff, tilting her tearful, delicate face up at Sienna.

"Sienna... I'm begging you..."

Her voice trembled violently, every word dripping with grievance and submissiveness.

"I know I shouldn't have feelings for Grant, but when it comes to love... I really can't control it."

"If you're angry, just take it all out on me."

Her little speech made it sound as if Sienna were the cruel tyrant throwing her weight around and terrorizing the Gauthier family.

And Lyla was the selfless saint, willing to sacrifice herself and grovel for the sake of true love and family peace.

Would she take the out and play the magnanimous legal wife? Or would she stay rigid, cementing her image as an unforgiving, jealous shrew?

Eleanor's lips trembled with anger. She was just about to shut down this absurd circus.

But Sienna finally moved.

"What kind of play are you putting on?"

The words landed like a solid slap across their faces.

Lyla's sobbing came to a screeching halt.

Grant's head snapped up. "What is that supposed to mean?!"

She looked at him, a trace of mockery in her eyes. "One second you're heartbroken that she's on the floor, the next you're calling me cold."

"Mr. Gauthier, do you actually want me to forgive you, or do you just want to show the whole family how sensible Lyla is, and how malicious I am?"
