Chapter 149

Mason’s POV

The board’s proposal sat open on my screen like a loaded gun.

I’d read the same paragraph three times and still couldn’t focus. Maya’s name kept jumping out at me. Removal. Immediate.

If the board followed through, I wouldn’t just keep my seat…. I’d finally have room to breathe. Room to move. My fingers tapped the edge of the desk. Power. Real power.

The kind that didn’t come with her constant interference or her goddamn secrets.

The door opened without a knock. My secretary walked in carrying a stack of folders, hips swaying under that tight black skirt. The fabric pulled tight across her ass with every ste…. full, round, the kind of curve that made a man forget what he was supposed to be signing.

She set the folders down and leaned over the desk to straighten them. I didn’t look at the papers. I looked at the way her blouse gapped when she bent forward.

“You needed these before the end of day,” she said, voice light, professional.

I nodded, but my mind wasn’t on signatures. She was pretty in that clean, eager way…. big eyes, full lips, and that body that didn’t belong behind a desk. She looked like the type who’d believe anything if you said it the right way. And right now, with the board finally moving on Maya, I had things to say.

“Sit,” I told her, pushing the chair across from me with my foot.

She hesitated, then lowered herself into it, crossing her legs. The skirt rode higher on her thigh.

I leaned back. “You’ve been solid since Maya’s…. Most people are panicking. You’re not.”

A small smile touched her mouth. “I just do my job, sir.”

“Keep doing it and things are going to change around here.” I let the words hang. “Once the board finishes what they started with Maya, the company’s going to look very different. Cleaner. More efficient. People who’ve been loyal to me will be going to get noticed.”

Her eyes flicked up, interested. “Noticed how?”

I stood and walked around the desk, stopping beside her chair. Close enough that she had to tilt her head to look at me. “Promotions. Real ones. You’ve got the drive. Once I have more say in who stays and who goes, I can make sure the right people end up in the right seats.” My hand rested on the back of her chair, fingers brushing her shoulder.

“Executive roles, maybe. You’d be running your own team instead of fetching folders.”

She didn’t pull away. If anything, she leaned into the touch, just a fraction. “You’d really do that?”

“Why wouldn’t I?” I kept my voice low, steady. “You’ve earned it. And I’m tired of watching talent get buried because of one person’s ego”

The air shifted. She uncrossed her legs slowly. I let my fingers slide from her shoulder to the side of her neck, thumb brushing the skin just below her ear. Her pulse jumped under my touch.

Elena’s breath hitched. She turned in the chair to face me fully. “Mason…..”

I didn’t correct her on the name. I just bent down and kissed her.

She kissed back hard, like she’d been waiting for permission. Her mouth opened under mine, tongue sliding against mine, tasting like the mint gum she always chewed. I pulled her up by the waist, spinning her so her back hit the edge of the desk. Papers scattered. One folder hit the floor with a soft slap.

My hands went straight to her ass….. full, firm, exactly like I’d imagined. I squeezed, lifting her slightly so she sat on the desk, then stepped between her knees. She was already breathing fast, fingers digging into my shirt. I kissed down her throat, teeth grazing the spot that made her gasp, while my palm slid up her thigh, pushing the skirt higher.

I was hard. Painfully hard. The kind of ache that made rational thought disappear. I wanted to flip her around, bend her over this desk, and bury myself in her until the only thing she remembered was my name.

My fingers hooked into the waistband of her skirt, ready to yank it down. She moaned into my mouth, legs parting wider.

The door swung open

Selina stood in the doorway like she’d been carved from stone.

For three full seconds, nobody moved. my secrraries hands were still fisted in my shirt. My palm was still under her skirt, fingers pressed against the heat between her thighs.

The papers on the floor looked like evidence at a crime scene

Selina’s eyes dragged from my face to her’s, then down to where my hand disappeared under fabric. Her expression didn’t change at firs…. just blank shock, like her brain hadn’t caught up with her eyes.

My secretary jerked back so fast she nearly fell off the desk. She yanked her skirt down with both hands, face burning red. “Mrs…. I…I… was just…..”

“Get out,” Selina said. The words were quiet. Too quiet

She didn’t need to be told twice. She grabbed her folders, half-ran past Selina, and pulled the door shut behind her. The click of the latch sounded louder than it should have.

I straightened my shirt, wiped my mouth with the back of my hand. “Selina. This isn’t….’

She took one step inside and closed the door behind her. The lock didn’t engage. She didn’t bother

Her eyes were different now. The shock had burned off. What was left was pure, ugly rage…. the kind that had been building for weeks and finally had somewhere to land.

Selina’s mouth twisted. A sound came out of her….. half laugh, half something broken.

“So this is who you really are when I’m not looking. When I’m not around….”
