Maisie and Gavin were already there, and within minutes I understood why Summer loved
them.
Gavin stood when we approached, tall and solid, black hair, brown eyes, jaw carved like
something a sculptor got obsessed with. He wore a fitted black short–sleeve shirt that
made it unfairly obvious how muscular he was. When he stepped aside to pull out chairs
for us, I caught sight of the khaki slacks hugging his thighs.
I had to swipe at my mouth to be sure I wasn’t doing something embarrassing.
His lips curved. He noticed.
Maisie was the kind of beautiful that made you recalibrate what you thought was possible.
Wild red hair, bright green eyes, freckles scattered across her nose and cheeks like
someone had painted them on. She had a goddess body–full breasts, a cinched waist, hips
that looked like they belonged in marble statues.
Her emerald dress plunged low, and when she stood to hug Summer, my eyes betrayed me
completely.
It should have been illegal for a person to look that good.
And then I looked at all three of them together–like a polished, confident unit–and my
confidence dipped. I knew I was pretty. But sexy? Not compared to this.
Maisie looked me over like she was appreciating art. “Gavin,” she said, voice delighted, “she
is so exotic.”
My stomach flipped.
“All that long black hair,” Maisie went on, unapologetic, “the kind you could grab like a
handle while you fuck her from behind.”
My face went hot in a single rush.
“And her tits?” Maisie added, eyes sparkling. “I want to taste them. Summer, where did you
find her?”

I just stood there, stunned, cheeks burning.

“Oh my god,” Maisie murmured, leaning closer like she was sharing a secret. “She blushes.”
“Easy,” Summer laughed. “Don’t scare off my new friend.”
Gavin’s voice came in smooth and warm. “You really are beautiful.”
“Thank you,” I said, prim as a nun.
Gavin chuckled again, like he enjoyed how flustered I was.
“Stop it, both of you,” Summer squealed, half laughing herself.
Maisie lifted her hands. “Sorry–Scar, right?”
“Yes,” I said, forcing myself to breathe. “I’m Scar. And you’re Maisie and Gavin.”
They nodded.
“We’re teasing,” Gavin said, sounding genuinely kind. “Summer told us you were gorgeous.
We got carried away.”
Dinner turned out to be easy after that. The food was ridiculous–rich, perfect, the kind of meal you wanted to close your eyes for. They asked me questions, listened, laughed with
me instead of at me.
When I finally told them the ugly parts of my story, Gavin’s protective outrage flared
immediately.
“I‘|| go
to Montana and kick Brennan’s ass,” he said, dead serious.
I laughed, shaken and grateful at the same time. “I appreciate that, but you don’t need to. I just want my life back.”
Maisie tilted her head, smile sharp and promising. “Oh, honey. We can help with that.”
She blew me a kiss.
I blushed on reflex.
Maisie’s laugh was delighted. “You are adorable. A breath of fresh air.”

After dinner, we went to Maisie’s boutique.
The place looked expensive the second you walked in–clean lines, soft lighting, clothes displayed like gallery pieces. Maisie explained she designed everything herself, including lingerie, and it showed. Every item looked intentional.
Then I saw the price tags and nearly choked.
A cocktail dress I had been staring at cost fifteen hundred dollars.
I took one step back like it might bite me.
Maisie caught me. “Try it,” she insisted. “It would look unreal on you.”
“I can’t,” I said quickly. “I can’t even afford to breathe near it.”
“Nonsense.”
Before I could stop her, she had already yanked the dress off the hanger and pressed it into my arms. Then she added black heels–strappy sandals that laced up the back of my leg to
the top of my calf.
In the dressing room, I changed with shaky hands.
The dress was red and unforgiving–tight, short, and strapless with a sweetheart neckline.
Sequins followed the shape of the bust in a pattern that pulled attention exactly where I
usually tried to hide it. The cleavage was deep enough to make me swallow.
It clung to every curve and stopped mid–thigh on my 5’5 frame.
With my hair still in a high ponytail, I looked… different. Not cute. Not safe.
When I stepped out, all three of them reacted at once–whistles, widening eyes.
“Holy fuck,” Gavin said, voice low, staring like he wanted to commit the image to memory.
“You are hot.”
Maisie and Summer were watching me too, both of them wearing that same pleased,
assessing interest.

Maisie snapped her fingers. “That dress is yours. The shoes too. I’m paying. Come here-
pick earrings.”
I tried to protest, but she was already sliding gold bangles onto my wrist. I chose dangling gold earrings from the case, hands still trembling.
“Perfect,” Maisie said. “Now makeup. More liner. And this lipstick–smudge it, don’t baby it.
Yes. Exactly.”
She stepped back like she was finishing a painting. “Now we party.”
I stopped by the full–length mirror near the register and stared.
I have never seen myself like that.
I looked hot. I looked like I belonged in the same room as them. And for the first time in a long time, the feeling in my chest wasn’t fear.
It was confidence.
I was ready for tonight.
