He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

“Fine. We’ll continue this later.”

“Sure.”

She started walking backward now.

“And Daisy?”

“Hmm?”

“You better not disappear again today.”

I forced a small smile.

“No promises.”

“Terrible friend.”

Then she turned and disappeared down another hallway.

I stood there for a moment after she left.

Then exhaled slowly.

“I need to stop by the bathroom first,” I muttered to nobody. And walked away,

By afternoon, things felt calmer.

Not fixed.

Just calmer.

Which honestly felt suspicious.

Like the universe was temporarily sitting down and giving me a break before continuing the chaos.

I sat in statistics class with my notebook open properly for once, actually writing things down instead of mentally planning my disappearance or panicking.

Professor Hale was explaining probability distributions.

Or taxes.

One of them.

The point was- I was trying.

And the reason-I was trying was simple.

The letter

DeLuca had definitely seen it by now

Which meant things would probably become less tense ster

Maybe awkward.

Maybe uncomfortable.

But not this horrible silence that had been hanging between us lately.

I tapped my pen lightly against the edge of my notebook while my thoughts drifted again. Unforanately-

to Archer.

The gently handsome stranger from the bar.

I still hadn’t texted him. Not because I didn’t want to.

Just because… I didn’t know.

Everything currently felt too complicated to introduce another person into it.

Especially one who looked like he belonged on expensive perfume billboards.

Still-

I remembered the way he noticed immediately that I had been crying.

The way he didn’t pressure me afterward.

The way he spoke softly instead of making everything awkward.

That part lingered.

Which was annoying.

I sighed quietly and continued writing notes.
