He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155

(Daisy’s POV)

The moment I heard the apartment door open, every muscle in my body tightened.

I wasn’t waiting for him.

At least that was what I told myself.

I had been moving through the living space, trying unsuccessfully to distract myself from my own thoughts, when Debuca stepped inside.

He paused.

I paused.

And just like that, we were staring at each other again.

He shut the door behind him and placed his keys on the counter.

Then he spoke first.

“I didn’t see you at the championship opening.”

The statement caught me off guard.

Not because of what he said.

Because he was saying anything at all.

I folded my arms.

“Oh. You wanted me there?”

His expression barely shifted.

“I wasn’t chasing you away before.”

A laugh escaped me.

Short.

Disbelieving.

“You really believe that?”

“I’m sure.”

Something inside me snapped.

Okay, in-that-ease, let’s talk about you running away from every conversation we’ve tried to have. Let’s talk about you avoiding the tension, avoiding the problem, avoiding literally everything and then suddenly showing up acting like an asshole.”

To my surprise, the corner of his moth twitched.

“Impressive.”

I frowned.

“What?”

“You’ve added a new word to your vocabulary.”

For a second I simply stared at him.

Then my frustration doubled.

“This is exactly what I’m talking about.”

“What is?”

“You do this thing where somebody says something serious and you respond with something completely unneeded.”

His gaze remained steady.

“I responded.”

“No. You didn’t.”

I threw my hands up.

“You become ignorant whenever things get uncomfortable. Then you act like nothing happened and somehow I’m the one left trying to drag this entire

conversation forward.”

His jaw tightened slightly.

“Ignorant.”

“Yes.”

“You use that word a lot.”

“Because it applies to you.”

The silence that followed was brief but dangerous.

Then I shook my head.

“And today you decided to walk up to me and act like you own my decisions.” I don’t own your decisions.”

“You sure about that?”

“I just want you to be careful.”

A bitter laugh escaped me.

“You are in absolutely no position to want that after everything you’ve done.”

His gaze sharpened.

“Everything I’ve done?”

“Yes. Everything you’ve done.”

I stepped closer.

“I thought you were calm. I thought you were understanding. I thought underneath all the criminal-mafia-intimidation package there was actually a decent person in there.”

His expression didn’t change.

“I was wrong.”

“Daisy-”

“No.”

I cut him off.

“You don’t get to interrupt me this time.”

His eyes narrowed slightly.

I continued.

“I spent weeks thinking maybe i misunderstood you. Then all this happened and I realized you’re unbelievably self-centered.”

His jaw shifted.

“You’re arguing blindly.”

The response hit exactly where it shouldn’t and for a moment I nearly exploded.
