Chapter 307
[Daisy’s POV)
Guns rose toward Archer.
I saw it happen in fragments- the men shifting into position, weapons lifting, no hesitation anywhere in the motion, like this was routine, like a life ending here was simply the next item on somebody’s checklist, right between breakfast and lunch.
“No!” I twisted hard against the hands holding me, ignoring the pain of it, ignoring everything except the fact that Archer was still kneeling there, still watching me, still whispering hope hadn’t asked for and now might get him killed for offering. “Don’t touch him! Please, don’t-”
I struggled harder, uselessly, my voice cracking apart with how loud I was screaming it. This was, quite possibly, the worst possible use of my remaining energy, and I did it anyway, because apparently my brain had decided dignity was optional tonight.
The world narrowed down to the barrel of a gun and the terrible, mounting certainty that I was about to watch it happen anyway.
Then a voice cut through everything.
平
“You’ve always been shameless,” it said, cold and even Having others do your dirty work. Never enough courage to do it yourself.”
Every muscle in my body went still.
knew that voice. I would know that voice in a coma. I would know that voice from the bottom of the ocean.

DeLuca stepped into the space like he owned every square inch of it.
and somehow that alone Relief crashed through me so fast and so completely I nearly lost my footing, the men holding me the only thing keeping me upright. He walked in alone no army behind him, no visible backup, nothing but his own unbothered composure carrying him forward
felt like more protection than an entire battalion would have. I don’t know what that says about my judgment. Probably nothing good. I was still
relieved anyway.
“Adrian DeLuca.” Volkov’s voice carried something close to delight now, thin and cold. “Here to avenge his mother’s death.”
He tilted his head slightly.
“You’ve just made things considerably easier for me. We only just captured your little piece of bait, hoping to use her to draw you out.” A short laugh. “Turns out you’re even more foolish than I expected. Convenient, really.”
Cool.
Great. Love being referred to as a

“I didn’t come for convenience,” DeLuca said, voice flat, unbothered. “I came to finish something.”
Volkov laughed again, low and genuine, gesturing loosely at the men surrounding him.
“You’re one man,” he said. “Standing in my base. Surrounded by hundreds of mine.” He shook his head slowly. “I don’t think you understand exactly how foolish this mistake is,”

Chapter 307
He studied DeLuca with something almost like pity.
Trecently learned you no longer hold any claim to the DeLuca empire. No resources. No authority. Which means, functionally, you’re no longer
useful to me at all.
“1-“DeLuca started.
“Except, Volkov cut in smoothly, “for the fact that I can use you to bring down your father. He’s the actual threat now, isn’t he? The real
nemesis.”
“You have it wrong,” DeLuca said.
“I don’t think I do.” Volkov’s expression cooled further. “You’re alone. What exactly are you planning to do without your toys?”
Something shifted in his face then, a flicker of genuine irritation finally breaking through the composure, the first crack I’d seen in it all night.
“You know,” he said, “I’m tired of conversation.”
He turned to the men beside him.
