The gunfire in the distance hadn’t stopped. If anything, it intensified, the fight clearly still raging somewhere near the outer perimeter, which meant this this exact courtyard, this exact standoff wasn’t even the whole war It was just the part I happened to be standing in.

I searched the new arrivals, and my stomach dropped when I found a face I recognized.
