(Daisy’s POV)

“What?”

The word left my mouth before I could stop it, loud and disbelieving but DeLuca wasn’t fazed by it.

“I don’t like repeating myself.”

Of course he didn’t. Why would he? Repeating yourself implies the other person has a choice in whether to listen. With him,

apparently, that wasn’t a thing.

“No,” I said, firmer now, shaking my head as if that alone could undo what he’d just said. “Absolutely not. That’s not happening!”

He didn’t react to my tone. Didn’t even blink.

“There’s absolutely no reason!” I added and his response came at once.

“What part of ‘I need to monitor you personally’ don’t you understand?”

There it was again. That word; Monitor. Like I was a project or a problem. Or something that needed constant supervision else it

would explode.

“But that doesn’t mean you have to stay here.” I returned.

“It does.” He said plainly, not even trying to argue… which was just frustrating.

I let out a breath then, a short laugh following it because this had to be a joke. It had to be.

“This is crazy,” I said, gesturing around the room. “This is a girls’ apartment. You can’t just move in. There’s no space, there’s no-

there’s nothing that makes this make sense.”

“We’ll create space.”

He said it like he was suggesting we move a chair.

“No, we won’t!” I shot back immediately. “That’s not how this works.”

“It is now.” He said casually….

… And just like that, my argument lost structure.

Because how do you argue with someone who rewrites the rules mid-conversation and sounds like raised voice and firm tone have no effect on him whatsoever?

He glanced around once, then said, almost casually, “You and your weird roommate will share one room. I’ll take the other.”

This had to be some sort of joke.

“No. That’s not happening.” I returned at once.

“You’ll adjust.”
