He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57

I glared at him and he noticed it as he stared back.

Then, seemingly with thought, he added, “Unless you’d prefer you and I share a room?”

“No!”

It came out too fast, too sharp and too loud.

And for a second, there was the faintest shift in his expression. Not quite a smile. Not even close. But something lighter than the cold composure he usually wore.

It was the faintest amusement, and then it was gone.

Meanwhile, Lillian had retreated slightly, whispering to herself while typing furiously on her phone, probably trying to tell someone that the walking headline was currently in our apartment and taking her room.

I could specifically guess that now that I had just seen her give her room away without thinking.

I turned back to DeLuca, forcing my thoughts into something coherent.

“This is just crazy,” I said, quieter now, but heavier because now he had anchor. Now that Lilian was willing to spare her room to him, I couldn’t confidently chase him away because I wasn’t in charge of Lilian’s room even though I had legal influence in the

apartment dealings.

I couldn’t control her portion of that influence, and this made me weak now.

“You’re already… known. Everywhere in school. People are talking about you. And now you’re here, in my space, saying you want to monitor me. Do you have any idea what that looks like for me?”

He stood up.

Just like that. No reaction to the question and no attempt to soften anything.

“That’s for you to figure out.”

I frowned at that but he moved past me, heading toward Lillian’s room like he had already memorized the layout and naturally belonged here.

“I’m tired,” he added, almost as an afterthought. “Your campus is unnecessarily large.”

I turned, frustration snapping through me. “Why should I suffer for your mistake?!”

That stopped him. He paused near the doorway, then looked over his shoulder at me.

“Because you have no other choice.”

The words were calm and casual. Not harsh… and that made them worse to my hearing. That made me want to explode in rage.

He continued walking and I clenched my fists tightly.

How can someone be so infuriating?!

“You’ll move your things later,” he told Lillian as he passed her. “For now, I need to rest.”
