Chapter 58
(Daisy’s POV)
A knock dragged me out of sleep in the most disrespectful way possible.
At first, it didn’t even feel real. It blended into whatever dream I had been having, something about drying avocados, which, in hindsight, made sense.considering my current living situation. But then the knock came again.
Louder.
I subconsciously frowned into my pillow and tried to ignore it. That was when I realized I couldn’t move properly. Something was on me.
Wait. No. Not something.
Someone.
I opened my eyes slowly and turned my head just enough to confirm what I already suspected. Lillian had somehow managed to drape herself over me like I was a mattress extension. Her arm was across my neck, her leg thrown over my waist, and her breathing steady and peaceful, like she wasn’t actively suffocating another human being.
I stared at the ceiling.
Last night had been a mistake.
Not the decision to share a room. That had not been a decision. That had been forced. What I meant was the assumption that we would both just… sleep- like normal people.
We were not normal people.
At least not in our sleep.
My entire body felt like I had been in a minor fight and lost. And now, the knock came again.
I groaned and carefully lifted an arm off my neck, placing it beside the owner as gently as I could. Then I reached down and moved her leg, which took more effort than I expected because she adjusted slightly, tightening her hold for a second before relaxing again.
Of course, she was comfortable.
I finally managed to slide out of bed, stretching my arms as I stood. The movement pulled at muscles I didn’t even remember having, and I winced lightly before another slow knock sounded. This time, it fully registered, and I stilled.
Right.
Things were different now. There was someone else in this house, and with his knocking, I knew exactly why he was here.
