He Finally Noticed Me Right When I Was Leaving novel Chapter 138

But deep down, she knew the truth. Those memories were like healed scars.

They no longer bled, but they remained, clinging to her skin in an ugly, twisted reminder of just how much agony and despair she had survived.

"Why are you staring at it for so long?"

Caspian's voice abruptly pulled her back to reality.

He had gotten up at some point and was now standing right beside her. His eyes dropped to the album in her hands, his expression twisting into something deeply complicated.

He looked evasive. Guilty.

Seraphina pushed her emotions back down, slowly closing the album. She tucked the loose photos and the book back into the wooden box, returning it to the deepest corner of the cabinet.

When she spoke, her voice was perfectly steady. She looked up at Caspian and said, "Keep your wounds dry. Change the bandages on time. If they get infected, you're on your own."

Caspian stared at her stoic profile, opening his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately kept quiet.

Instead, he just nodded, turned back to the sofa, and grabbed a cigarette from the table. He lit it, taking a long, hard drag.

Wreathed in smoke, the heavy shadows over his eyes seemed even darker and far more obscure.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

The sharp chime sliced through the heavy silence of the living room, abruptly shattering both their trains of thought.

Seraphina glanced at Caspian. His brow instantly furrowed, a sharp edge of hyper-vigilance entering his eyes.

He grabbed a baseball bat from the pile of clutter on the floor, tossing it lightly in his hand to test its weight. He turned to Seraphina. "Go upstairs. Grab the baby and take the back door out first."

Seraphina hesitated. "Has anyone been here while I was gone these past few days?"

Caspian shook his head.

"Did anyone see you leave the house today?"

Caspian tapped his head. "I wore my helmet the entire time. Who could possibly recognize me?"
