With her fever still not gone and after such a shock, Stella fainted and just wouldn’t wake up.

In a daze, she heard Felix shout, “Get the doctor over here!”

Then Hazel, who had appeared from somewhere, stopped him softly, “Felix, we don’t need a doctor. My family has a folk remedy that can wake her up right away. Trust me, but everyone needs to clear the room.”

Stella felt everyone leave the room.

Then, a sharp pain shot across her back. She struggled to open her eyes and discovered Hazel was scraping her back with a razor blade!

“Ah!” Stella cried out, struggling desperately against the pain.

Hazel held her down firmly. “Don’t move. This is massage, a folk remedy from my hometown. If you want to get better faster, you’ll have to bear it.”

“Whose… massage uses a razor blade…” Stella was drenched in a cold sweat from the pain, her struggles growing more frantic.

This wasn’t massage, this was torture by a thousand cuts!

She gathered her last ounce of strength and violently shoved Hazel away!

Caught off guard, Hazel cried out and fell to the floor.

Just at that moment, Felix burst in.

“Stella!” Felix rushed forward, helped Hazel up with a look of concern, and then turned to Stella, his eyes blazing with fury. “You were the one who upset Hazel in the first place! She puts that aside and tries to help you get better, and this is how you treat her? You’re unbelievable!”

Stella was in too much pain to speak, so she just stared at him, her gaze fixed and hard.

Hazel nestled in Felix’s arms, her eyes brimming with tears. “It’s alright, Felix. Mrs. Vance is probably just in a lot of pain… I don’t blame her…”

“No!” Felix’s heart ached for her. “She has to apologize to you!”

Chapter 7

In the evening, the sky turned completely dark.

Stella was sleeping fitfully when she was suddenly choked awake by thick smoke, her ears filling with the clamor of screams and running feet!

“The hospital’s on fire! Run!”

Alarmed, she forced her weak, aching body up and opened the door to her room, only to see the hallway filled with thick smoke and raging flames! People were panicking, rushing towards the stairwell.

Stella immediately stumbled after the crowd. At the stairwell, she ran into Hazel, who was also trying to escape.

In the chaos, Hazel tripped on something. She instinctively grabbed Stella’s arm, and they both lost their balance, screaming as they tumbled down the stairs!

A sharp pain shot through her, and Stella’s vision went black. She nearly fainted again.

When she managed to lift her head, she found they had fallen onto a relatively enclosed landing. The only exit was blocked by fallen, burning debris.

The smoke was getting thicker, and the fire was spreading.

Hazel seemed to have injured her foot and was sobbing quietly nearby.

Stella tried to push away the debris blocking their way, but her body was too weak. She couldn’t move it. The thick smoke made her cough violently, and her consciousness began to fade.

Just when she thought she was going to die there, she faintly heard the voices of rescuers outside, and among them, an anxious male voice she knew to her very bones.

“Sir, the fire inside is too intense, it’s too dangerous! You can’t go in!”

“Let go of me! The woman I love is still in there!”

It was Felix!

The next moment, she saw Felix charge in, defying the smoke and flames, reckless and determined.
