Chapter 19
Hazel was startled by his roar. She turned and saw Felix’s dark, ashen face. She froze for a moment, then her own feelings of grievance and anger surged up.
Especially when she remembered Stella’s triumphant glamour at the gala and Felix’s devastated expression, she was consumed by jealousy!
“I’m the one who’s mad?!” Hazel shrieked back, her words thoughtless and sharp. “Felix! Why are you yelling at me?! If you’ve got the guts, go find your ex–wife! Go on! See if your precious Stella wants you back now! What do you think you are? She’s surrounded by men who are younger, handsomer, and richer than you! What right do you have to act all high and mighty with me?!”

Her words were like a series of poisoned daggers, stabbing precisely into Felix’s most painful wounds!
He was shaking with rage, pointing at Hazel, unable to utter a single word for a long moment.
After her outburst, Hazel seemed to realize she had gone too far. Seeing his ugly expression, she habitually switched to her pitiful, tearful act. Tears fell on cue as she sobbed, “Felix… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean it… It’s just… I was so humiliated by Stella at the gala today, and I came home feeling awful… Then I saw how distracted you were because of her, and I… I was so afraid of losing you… that’s why I said those things… You know I come from a humble background, I always feel so insecure around you…”
In the past, this tactic of feigning weakness and playing the victim might have softened Felix’s heart.
But now, looking at her tear–streaked face, which was slightly distorted with anger, and comparing it to Stella’s calm, confident expression, he felt nothing but endless annoyance and disgust!
He didn’t want to say another word to her. He spun around and stormed out, slamming the door behind him!
The massive slam seemed to make the entire villa tremble.
Felix drove to his usual bar and began pouring shot after shot of hard liquor down his throat, trying to numb
himself.
Under the influence of alcohol, the image of Stella’s dazzling figure at the gala, with Archer watching over her tenderly, intertwined with his memories of Hazel’s vulgarity and the toxic atmosphere of his home. The immense contrast was driving him mad with pain!
He began to uncontrollably reminisce about the past.
He remembered Stella’s elegance and talent, the silent support she had given him in his career, the way even her

“dramatic” moments had a certain charming coyness… And Hazel, what was left of her besides that initial, fake gentleness?
Greed, superficiality, vulgarity!
He truly… regretted it!
He returned to the villa, drunk, late at night.
Hazel was already asleep, her heavy snores coming from the bedroom.
Felix didn’t turn on the lights. By the faint light from the window, he looked at the woman on the bed, sleeping ungracefully, her face plain. Then he thought of the radiant Stella from the investigation report, and regret seeped into his bones like venom!
Just then, the old housekeeper, Mrs. Gable, who looked after the child and had long been unhappy with Hazel’s behavior, perhaps unable to bear it any longer, or perhaps emboldened by Felix’s drunken state, gathered her courage and came into the room.
