And Sylvia was promoted to be Chase’s executive assistant.
n a flash, she had been at the branch for two weeks.

Sylvia and he worked in perfect sync.
They went on a business trip together, closed a deal smoothly, and walked back into the office laughing.
A colleague greeted them. “Mr. Kingsley, your guest has arrived. He’s waiting in the conference room.”
Chase raised an eyebrow. “Early bird, huh?”
He shrugged and turned to Sylvia. “It’s about the resort project. Let’s go.”
Sylvia didn’t think much of it and followed Chase.
As they reached the door, she caught a glimpse of a profile and recognized the man inside instantly.
She froze mid–step, a name on the tip of her tongue.
Chase noticed her expression. “What’s wrong? You know him?”
Sylvia didn’t hide it. “I do, but…”
Before she could finish, Ford, who had been watching the door, saw her.
He stood up immediately.
Chase raised a brow. “Seems like more than just ‘know him‘.”
He walked in first.
Sylvia pushed down her chaotic thoughts and followed him in.
After brief introductions, Sylvia sat next to Chase, pretending Ford didn’t exist.
She remained professional, diligently taking notes and speaking as little as possible.

Chase didn’t agree immediately. After a few more words, he ended the meeting and walked Ford to the entrance.
Then he turned to Sylvia. “In my office.”
Sylvia followed him in. Chase sat down in his chair.
He tapped his fingers on the desk. “Ex–boyfriend?”
Sylvia was blunt. “Ex–husband.”
Chase looked surprised but didn’t pry. “Looks like your ex isn’t over you. Chased you all the way to New York.”
“What do you think of his proposal?”
Sylvia looked at him calmly. “I’ll follow your lead, Boss.”
“But if I take this on, I want a fat bonus. Emotional damage is a workplace hazard, after all.”
Sylvia had worked for the Kingsley Group’s branches for years since graduating.
