Chapter 6
To keep Dahlia in good spirits, Caspian took her on a trip across the country.
The first day, he took her to see the fountains in Central Park, with a brilliant rainbow in the background.
The second day, he took her deep–sea fishing in the Florida Keys, and they came back with a huge catch.
The third day, he took her to see the Northern Lights in Alaska, posting a nine–photo grid of their silhouettes pressed closely together…
Fans flooded the comments: [So romantic! They say couples who see the Northern Lights together will never be separated!]
[Dahlia, we’ll always support you!]
My finger hovered over the screen, my eyes filling with tears that I stubbornly refused to let fall.
The places Dahlia and Caspian were visiting were the exact same spots on the round–the–world trip he and I had planned long ago.
Lost in a daze, a calendar notification popped up on my phone.
[Today is our 5th anniversary. I wonder what kind of surprise Caspian has planned for me?]
Reading those words, the tears finally broke through.
After a long time, I pulled myself together, ordered a lavender honey cake, and cooked a huge meal.
Closing my eyes, I made a wish over the cake.
Two days left until my faked death.
I wish that Caspian and I will never cross paths again.
The next day, Caspian and Dahlia flew back overnight and showed up at the reality show set.
I was wearing a high–collared jacket to hide the ugly marks on my neck, staring blankly into the mirror.
The jacket, which had fit perfectly six months ago, now hung loosely on my frame.

Behind me, Dahlia approached slowly, a smile on her face. “Scarlett, we’re filming on a snowy mountain today. The weather is dangerous, so let’s be sure to help each other out.”
She gave me a meaningful look, then turned to grab Caspian’s arm. “Isn’t that right, Caspian?”
Caspian stroked her hair affectionately. “I told you, you’re in a delicate condition. You should be resting at home,
not insisting on coming along.”
Dahlia pouted. “But I wanted to come with you.”
“Alright, alright, whatever you say.”
The two of them flirted as if no one else was there. I looked away, digging my nails into my palms until they turned purple.
On the helicopter, Dahlia sat down next to Caspian before I could.
She turned back with a bright smile. “Scarlett, you’ll have to sit in the back.”
I instinctively looked at Caspian. His expression was calm as he gave me a matter–of–fact nod.
Bitterness spread through my chest. I lowered my eyes and took a seat in the back.
The entire way, Dahlia and Caspian were recapping their three–day trip.
The warm winter sun shone through the clouds and into the helicopter. She was playful, he was laughing, they were more like a couple in the throes of new love than anything else.
Even though the midday sun was at its strongest, my hands were ice–cold, and I couldn’t feel any warmth at all.
Suddenly, Dahlia cried out, “It hurts!”
Hearing this, Caspian immediately began an emergency landing on the snowy plains.
The helicopter shook violently, and I lost my balance, tumbling to the side.
With a thud, I felt a warm liquid trickling down from my temple.
Caspian heard the noise and glanced back at me, but his attention quickly returned to Dahlia.
He leaned over, carefully checking on her. “Dahlia, what’s wrong?”
Dahlia’s face was contorted in pain, her voice choked with tears. “I think the baby is kicking me… it hurts so much…”
Caspian’s face was filled with panic. He ordered, “Scarlett, you get out. I’m taking Dahlia to the hospital.”

I stared at him in disbelief, but my throat felt like it was blocked by a stone, and I couldn’t make a sound.
When I didn’t move, he repeated impatiently, “Be reasonable. I’ll be right back to get you.”
I summoned all my strength and managed to force out a few hoarse words. “Why can’t I go to the hospital with you? Caspian, I’m hurt too!”
