Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Tears of fear blurred my vision. I looked up, needing to be sure. “Rhys?”
Rhys nodded vigorously, his eyes falling on my raw, bleeding wrists, his expression filled with heartache. “Yes, it’s me. Come with me, quickly.”
Without hesitation, he took off his coat, wrapped it around me, and carried me in his arms to his car, heading for the hospital.
On the way, Rhys drove with a blank expression, not asking too many questions.
I didn’t know if it was because he didn’t want to embarrass me, or because he was disappointed.
It was the first time I had felt such a terrifyingly heavy atmosphere from the usually gentlemanly and humorous man.
Cold, angry, and unapproachable.
in the hospital, I sat obediently on the bed, my hands heavily bandaged.
snow was falling heavily outside, and the wind howled, rattling the tree branches with a creaking sound.
thys sat beside me, peeling fruit. I stole glances at his profile, biting my lip, unsure of what to say.
le didn’t feed me like he usually did. Instead, he placed the plate on the bedside table. “You eat first. I’m going to get the test results.”
eeing him about to leave, my heart tightened.
I voice inside me kept saying: Keep him here!
Wait-” I blurted out, instinctively reaching for his sleeve.
hys’s expression was complicated. He looked away, not meeting my eyes, and gently pulled his hand away. “I’ll be right back.”
Vith that, he hurried out of the room.
looked up at the mirror and saw the reflection of my dazed self sitting on the bed.
fy figure was thin and frail, and the smile on my face was uglier than tears.
few seconds later, as if having made up my mind, I got out of bed and secretly followed him.
wanted to know why Rhys’s attitude had changed so drastically.
round the corner, I heard two people talking
bys said, “Doctor, what are the results?”
he doctor pushed up his glasses. “Ms. Louise’s physical injuries aren’t serious, but her mental state is unstable. She’s been diagnosed with post traumatic stress
isorder.”
What does that mean?”
Simply put, she’s experienced similar incidents in the past
hys froze for a few seconds, then his tone turned cold understand.
My shameful past laid bare before me, I felt a deep sense of inadequacy
My ears were ringing. When I strained to listen again, I heard Rhys say, “Stay away from her, disgusting”

he freshly bandaged wounds felt like they had ripped open again, each drop of blood hitting my heart like a hammer.
couldn’t bear to listen anymore and fled in a panic.
ack in my room, I gasped for breath, my back against the door as I slid weakly to the floor.
ty heart felt like it was being twisted by a machine, then cut into a million pieces.
