Chapter 20
Standing at the door was none other than Rhys!
He was tall and slender, his trench coat accentuating his excellent figure. His face was so handsome it was hard to look away.
“What’s wrong?” Rhys laughed. “You’re not moving. Am I not welcome?”
I snapped out of it, realizing I had been staring.
I clenched my fists, a thousand words stuck in my throat, which came out as just one question, “What are you doing here?”
We hadn’t spoken in days. That was a tacit agreement to draw a line between us.
What did it mean for him to come looking for me now?
thys brushed the snow off his shoulders, stared at me for a long moment, then said flatly, “Your ex–husband has been arrested.”
learing this, my eyes shot up to his. He continued, “After I got you settled that day, I had people seal off the scene and conduct a full investigation. We have vitnesses and physical evidence.”
No matter what, that scumbag will be locked up for a few months, then deported back to his home country.”
Listening to Rhys’s description, the full story began to piece itself together in my mind like a puzzle.
His coldness wasn’t directed at me, but at Caspian!
And what he said to the doctor wasn’t about me either.
he full sentence was: “I want that scumbag to stay away from her, he’s disgusting.”
he anxiety I had felt for days now seemed like a self–indulgent joke.
But thankfully, the ending was a happy one,
couldn’t help but punch Rhys’s chest, my voice nasal. “Why didn’t you explain this to me these past few days?”
You could have just sent a text.”
Rhys, you idiot!”
hinking of everything he had done for me behind the scenes, my eyes started to sting.
ears streamed down my cheeks like broken pearls.
t was the first time I had lost control in front of Rhys. The cold mask he had carefully constructed instantly crumbled.
He held me like a child who had done something wrong, at a loss for what to do.
I’m sorry, Louise. I thought I was protecting you…”
‘Before, because we were close, your ex–husband went crazy and almost hurt you… I didn’t know how to face it”
‘It took me days to work up the courage to come here and talk things out.”
I was scared. Scared I would lose you.”
As he spoke, the man’s arms around me tightened.

Chapter 20
I wiped my tears, a smile forming on my lips, and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist.
I tilted my head up slightly and asked, “So you don’t mind? My past.”
You silly girl. I never minded,” Rhys said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, his tone doting. “Although I’m curious about your past, if there are things you don’t want to talk about, I’ll pretend I don’t know.”
You must be hungry. Let’s go eat.”
He led me outside. In the snow, there were two sets of footprints, one deep, one shallow.
Sunlight broke through the clouds, casting a golden glow on the white snow.
When we got to the park, Rhys pointed to a spot. “Louise, do you remember? This is where we first met. Back then, you were just a girl who had just moved tere, trying to make it, practicing your acting in front of this tree every day.”
couldn’t help but sigh. “I remember! You used to come looking for me every day. I was so annoyed with you.”
he dappled shadows of the tree fell on us, taking my thoughts back to the past.
