Maybe it was because Chase had helped her so much since she arrived in New York, despite being her boss.

Without realizing it, Sylvia started opening up about her past.

Chase was a good listener, mostly staying quiet and letting her vent.

But when he heard about Ford kicking her down the stairs repeatedly, his eyes darkened, and he muttered a curse under his breath.

Sylvia chuckled softly. Unbelievable, right?

Her laughter faded into tears.

Chase looked down at the tears on her cheeks, silenced for a moment, then said, Don’t worry. No one’s gonna bully you ever again.

Sylvia cried herself to sleep, drunk and exhausted.

Chase picked her up to take her home.

But just as they reached the restaurant entrance, Ford appeared.

His voice was cold. Give Sylvia to me. I’ll get her home safe.

He spoke to Chase, but his burning gaze was fixed on Sylvia.

He couldn’t help himself, he had followed them all the way.

Sylvia and Chase had been eating for hours, and he had been watching them from a distance for hours.

He wanted to storm in and snatch Sylvia back.
