The sound of water splashing instantly drew the attention of everyone around them.
Sylvia glared at him coldly, her eyes filled with nothing but disgust. “Don’t touch me.”
Ford’s hand trembled as he pulled it back, but the pleading in his eyes intensified. “I… I know I messed up. Please…”
Sylvia looked at him with a bitter smile, enunciating every cold word. “When I begged you to believe me just once, did you ever
listen?”
Ford’s eyes were bloodshot, tears threatening to spill.
Sylvia didn’t look back. She straightened her spine and walked away.
Neither of them noticed that Chase had seen the whole scene unfolding from a distance.
Watching Ford standing there dripping wet and humiliated, Chase raised an eyebrow and chuckled as he watched Sylvia walk away. “Still got that temper.”
Sylvia had lost her appetite, so she went straight back to the office.
She buried her head in her work, only to see Chase saunter past her desk.
He was holding a small blueberry cake, which he plonked right onto her desk.
‘Client gave it to me. I hate sweet stuff. You eat it.”
Sylvia was actually starving, so she gave him a genuine smile. “Thanks, Boss.”
Chase grinned and turned into his office.
Even though Sylvia hated dealing with Ford, she kept business and personal matters separate. She wouldn’t let her feelings affect her
work.
Most of her tasks involved coordinating directly with Ford.
Ford didn’t bring up getting back together again, but he was relentless with the gifts and apology texts.
Because of work, she unblocked him, but she ignored every message that wasn’t strictly business.
Kingsley Group and Holloway Corp quickly finalized the partnership and signed the contract.
Sylvia settled into the rhythm at headquarters and decided to move out of the corporate housing. She rented an apartment just a ten–minute walk from the office.
It was a convenient location.
She planned to move over the weekend.

Chapter 14
But when she was packing on Saturday, she found Chase standing at her door.
He leaned against the doorframe, looking lazy. “Moving house and didn’t think to ask for help?”
Sylvia looked at him in surprise and laughed. “I wouldn’t dare ask the boss to be my mover.”
Chase bent down and took the box from her hands. “We’re off the clock. Stop calling me Boss. Just Chase.”
Sylvia felt a flutter in her chest. She grabbed another box and trotted after him. “Thanks… Chase.”
Chase had driven his own car.
Just as they finished loading the trunk, Ford came rushing over.
Seeing Chase and Sylvia standing side by side, his face darkened. He turned to Sylvia, explaining, “I heard you were moving. Came to
help.”
Before Sylvia could speak, Chase smirked. “No need to worry, Mr. Holloway. We got it covered.”
Ford narrowed his eyes at Chase, forcing a smile. “I didn’t realize the CEO cared so much about his employees that he’d personally
help them move.”
Chase’s grin widened. “What can I say? Ms. Morgan is my right hand. She’s… very important to me.”
They smiled at each other, but the air crackled with silent, intense hostility.
Meanwhile, Sylvia finished organizing her things and called out, “Chase, let’s go.”
Chase glanced at Ford, smirked, and got in the car. “See ya around, Ford.”
Sylvia ignored Ford completely and hopped into Chase’s passenger seat.
Ford wanted to say something, but Chase revved the engine and sped off.
Ford scrambled back to his car and tailed them.
The two cars arrived at the apartment building almost one after the other.
hase and Sylvia started unloading, and Ford rushed over to help.
seeing his eagerness, Sylvia frowned. “Ford…”
Before she could finish, Ford blurted out, “I’m just lending a hand. I’ll leave as soon as we’re done. I won’t bother you.”
lis face was pale, and he looked at her with cautious, pathetic puppy dog eyes.
He looked pitiful.
