Chapter 14
Theodore arranged a flight overnight and flew to the neighboring state first thing the next morning.
He drove straight to the Ashworth family’s impressive and historic estate, aggressively demanding to see Evelyn.
The Ashworths‘ butler was polite but distant. “Mr. Harrison, my apologies, but the young madam has given instructions that she is not receiving visitors. Especially not you.”
Theodore was furious. “I’m her brother–in–law! I have important business with her! Tell her to come out and see me!”
The butler remained composed. “The young madam said she has no desire to see old acquaintances. Please, you should leave.”
Old acquaintances?” Theodore sneered angrily. “She belongs to me! I must see her today!”
With that, he tried to force his way in.
However, the Ashworths‘ bodyguards quickly moved in, their actions swift and well–trained, instantly blocking his path.
These were clearly not ordinary security guards, they were skilled, with sharp eyes and an intimidating presence.
Although the Ashworths‘ business influence had waned in recent years compared to the Harrisons, their century–old foundation and certain unfathomable connections were now on full display.
The few men Theodore brought with him were no match. In the scuffle, he was even shoved around, looking rather pathetic.
He stood outside the Ashworths‘ closed gates, looking at the strict guards within, tasting the bitterness of being shut out for the first time.
in unprecedented sense of defeat and panic seized him.

le retreated, dejected, watching the woman continue to chat and laugh with the man beside her–the current CEO of Ashworth Corporation. Daniel Ashworths ncle, Marcus Ashworth–a mix of emotions churning inside him.
