Chapter 27
The other thugs saw this and swarmed him, their clubs raining down on Theodore like hailstones.
He was beaten bloody, but he stood like a wall, stubbornly shielding Evelyn, absorbing every single blow with his body.
In the chaos, one of the thugs pulled out a dagger. A glint of cold steel flashed as he lunged toward Evelyn.
‘Look out!”
Theodore’s pupils contracted. Without a second thought, he used the last of his strength to shove Evelyn aside, taking the full force of the dagger in his own
abdomen.
Ugh!”
Theodore let out a muffled grunt as warm blood instantly gushed out. He looked down at the dagger buried in his body, then up at Evelyn, whom he had pushed to safety. A twisted, almost relieved smile appeared on his lips.
Evelyn… this time… I finally… protected you first…”
He finished speaking, his voice barely a whisper, then his body swayed and he collapsed heavily into a pool of his own blood.
ust then, the other bodyguards from the villa and the local police, who had been alerted, finally arrived. Seeing they were outmatched, the thugs quickly umped into their vans and fled.

he image of this man, dying after taking a knife for her, overlapped and tore apart from the memory of the man who had coldly ordered a herd of horses to rample her… A deeply complex emotion, one she couldn’t even name, shot through her like a faint electric current.
ut it was only for a moment.
When Adrian rushed to her side, anxiously asking if she was hurt, Evelyn had already quickly regained her composure.
he looked at Theodore being lifted onto a stretcher by the paramedics, her eyes still cold, and said to Adrian, as if also speaking to herself.
Call an ambulance. Get him to a hospital.”
hen she paused, and her voice, without a ripple of emotion, added a final sentence, severing any possible connection.
I don’t owe him anything.”
