Chapter 9
After that, I became even more withdrawn and started refusing to eat.
I wasn’t deliberately going on a hunger strike.
But I just couldn’t stomach anything. Didn’t want food anymore.
Sometimes I thought it would be nice to just quietly leave this world.
The world was huge and didn’t need me anyway.
But Cole wouldn’t let me.
When he found out I’d skipped several meals, he actually brought food over, forcibly pinned me in his arms, pried my mouth open, and started
shoving spoonfuls in.
But I wouldn’t swallow.
I nearly choked to death several times.
“Cough, cough…”
He got pissed.
“Iris, do you really want to fucking die?”
I wiped the food off my mouth and laughed coldly.
“Yeah, scared I’ll die in your house? Think it’s bad luck? Cole Nash, whatever scares you, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. You’re a monster. When you’re miserable, I’m happy.”
He let go of me helplessly.
I actually saw defeat and exhaustion in his eyes. Even the all–controlling Cole Nash seemed completely powerless.
I thought he’d finally given up.
But then something I never expected happened.
He took a big spoonful of rice, chewed it up himself, then transferred it into my mouth.
I tried to pull away.
But he’d completely lost it.
He didn’t care that I was biting his tongue–he pushed the food all the way to the back of my throat.
I was forced to swallow.
I bent over, clawing at my throat.
Chapter 9
He let me go.
“Since you won’t eat when I feed you nicely, I don’t mind doing it myself.”
A moment later, he scooped up more rice to feed me. I didn’t dare fight back anymore, just obediently opened my mouth, chewed, and
swallowed.
But throughout that entire meal, we both had fire in our eyes, like we wanted to devour each other.
I was right.
Wren came back to cause more trouble.
This time, what she saw was even more painful.
Because after that force–feeding incident, I never dared to defy Cole again.
Otherwise, he’d definitely find even more extreme ways to make me comply.
He even made me sleep with him.
Though there was a galaxy between us on the bed.
His excuse was that I screamed and yelled whenever it thundered, waking him up.
If I slept next to him, I was much quieter.
It was a ridiculous excuse.
T
But I couldn’t argue.
Because when I did argue, he’d actually kiss me.
He said I had a foul mouth, and since I wouldn’t shut up when he told me to, he’d just shut it for me.
This time when Wren came, she walked in on us lying in the same bed.
Even weirder was that I was actually in Cole’s arms.
We usually slept on opposite edges of the bed, never touching each other.
But this time, we’d somehow ended up together.
I was confused.
I usually stayed in the same position all night.
But Cole seemed completely unfazed.
When Wren saw us, she predictably went hysterical and started pulling at us.
“What are you two doing?”
“Iris, you bitch.”
“I’ll kill you! Why won’t you just leave me alone? Why do you keep trying to steal Cole from me?”
Chapter 9
“Are you trying to drive me to suicide?”
Wren grabbed my hair.
But soon Cole threw her off with such force that she hit the wall.
She was completely devastated, her eyes red.
I wanted to speak, to explain.
“You’ve got it wrong. We didn’t do anything…”
But the words died on my lips.
