He Gave Her Strawberries, Gave Me Hives (Ford and Sylvia) novel Chapter 35

Chapter 15

About half a month later, I finally went to see Finn Reed.

On his headstone, even in black and white, his photo was still handsome.

Whoever chose the photo had good taste.

The corners of his lips were slightly upturned in a smile.

Like he wasn’t angry at all that his useless girlfriend had run away after his accident.

Seeing me, he seemed happy.

It felt so good knowing Finn Reed didn’t hate me. That way, I could still love him quietly, remember him, think about him.

Finn, is it cold down there?

You always said I was clumsy, but I knitted you a scarf. I made it just for you, so don’t think it’s ugly.

I pulled a warm red scarf from my bag and wrapped it around his headstone.

Then I secretly sat with him all afternoon.

Just sitting next to him made me feel so happy.

See?

I told you he was the best person in the world.

He didn’t blame me at all.

He didn’t chase me away.

I didn’t want to leave anymore and just stay here with him forever.

I clearly remembered falling asleep next to Finn Reed’s headstone.

But I woke up at home.

I looked around confused.

Iris, you’re awake. Are you hungry? Mom made some sweet dumplings. Want to eat some?

I sat up.

Mom brought over the soup and was about to feed me.

I turned my head away.

Mom, where’s Finn? I was just with him.

Dad put his arms around Mom.

But Mom just cried harder.

It’s all our fault. Why didn’t we fight back then? Or I should have gone overseas with Iris.

She wouldn’t have suffered like that.

What kind of hell did she go through? My poor baby

Elena, it’s my fault. I was an old fool. When she said the money was stolen, I didn’t believe her. I even yelled at her, called her a liar trying to manipulate us into bringing her back.

Our Iris was always perfect, so lively before, she was our little treasure. Look at her now, I’m really afraid she might

Mom cried even harder.

She was premature, remember? We promised we’d always protect her.

But we destroyed her instead.

Those scars on her bodyhow much must they have hurt?

Wren Shaw is the real liar, the manipulative one. David, I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure she pays for this.

Don’t worry. That woman fooled everyone back then. Elena, even if the Kane family gets destroyed in the process, I’m going to make the person who hurt our precious daughter pay a price she can’t handle.
